Traditionally I ride trails in Northern Mn, but I am considering having a dual purpose sled, Cruise trails and some of trail in MN and be able to have some fun in the Rockies

Can the Apex Mtn be ridden at 100 feet and hard pack snow?

Thanks Yamadoo

I'd keep the Mtn. sled off the hard pack. You'll eat hyfaxes like candy and ruin a very expensive track. Doesn't turn very well at speed on the trail either. Yamaha finally designed a sled meant solely for the mountains.
If you put a 141 or 144" extension, a 1.5" track (1.75-2" if you remove tunnel protectors and maybe smaller drivers), and some mountain skis you can get some decent floatation out of the Attak, but don't try to ride in the deep loose stuff. Stay in the wet packed snow and you'll do o.k.
You'll sacrifice some handling and top end on the trails but it will still outrun most.

Mtn

Everyone that has an attack says there's not enought track for the weight in lots of powder 3-4ft plus.I have an apex mtn and I bought a track at haydays for 100.00 and cut the lugs to 1" all I did is add some polaris wheels there a little larger and your hyfaxdon't wear much at all.The apex mtn has tipped up rails so it corners more like a shorter sled but when you get on the gas it rocks back so you hve full traction. There was real good riuders that couldn't keep up with me on 121" and 136" sleds. I personaly would get an attack and stratch it to a 151x1.25" track for all around riding.

So ;)! It sounds like I could have the best of both worlds with an Apex Mtn and a 1 to 1 1/4 track for Mn riding then throw the tall track back on for any Mtn trips.

My Apex will still be availabe for regular MN trail riding fast - long distance, I will call it my wifes sled and ride the MTN for the times we both go out and I have to go slower than usual any way or off trail riding if and when we ever get deep snow again.

I am thinking I might like this. ;)!

Something to dream about ;)!

THanks
