I was watching my sled run while I had the panels removed(was working on a coolant leak) and noticed the fixed sheave was sort of twitching away, so to be sure it wasn't my eyes playing tricks on me I stuck my pencil on the sheave while it was running and was able to feel the motion. so I did my test on our old faithful sxr and it felt just as true as can be. so I hit the net and found a used clutch, swapped them out and my problem has gone away thus confirming it was the cutch (i lost sleep over the possibility of it being the pto shaft), anyhow sorry for the long winded intro... but my actual question is, is there an acceptable amount of runout on the fixed sheave? and if so what is it? if my clutch is within a useable spec i wil sell it to someone as such, if it's not i'll sell it for parts... i'm known to be a litlle anal so i was just wondering what the thoughts were on this...

I looked through the service manual and there is nothing on measuring or identifying what your talking about.
Probably nothing of concern, interesting observation though!

Did you try re-installing the so called bad clutch? Could have been a piece of crap lodged between the stub and clutch causing the slight wobble during initial install at Manufacturer/dealer. You may have cleaned it by removing. Take a look at the inside of the clutch where it sits on the shaft to see if there are any wierd offset marks of any kind.

it was sometime around 97 or 96 and yamaha started to machine the inside faces of the clutch to make them more true before they where just sanded.then they put the clutch together and balance it. you might have something on the shaft when you mounted the clutch but i think you are ok.
