So I am at the point of starting up my Apex project for the first time - sorry for the stupid questions in advance (sled has 0 miles and is my first 4 stroke)!! I put an aftermarket tunnel on the sled, so all the coolant was drained - I put as much coolant in the tank as possible and fired it up . . . I am waiting by the sled for the coolant to get circulated through and add more coolant - it never pulled the coolant and gave me the chance to add more. It was idleing at 2500 - 2800 rpm's and there was smoke coming from the oil tank side down in the engine compartment! I think the smoke is from when I purchased the sled I sprayed some boeshield under the hood for protection, I hope it is just that burning off! Needless to say, I shut her down and am looking for some advice here.
1. How long before the t-stat opens and starts circulating the coolant?
2. How long does it have to run before I mess with the idle adjustment screw?
3. Smoke - anything to check out or look for?
Thanks

i know on the stock tunnel you bleed the air out of the system at the back of the tunnel it takes a while for the system to fill and the air bleed out as for aftermarkett tunnels i have no idea
My last sled was a Ski Doo and I was able to cycle the coolant through - I am open to suggestions!!

New sled I take it, you get an owners manual with it. If so there should be instructions in there. If not go to yamaha's web site and can look at owners manual there. With your extension did you still use your original cross over tube? If so there is a bleed screw on it, put back of sled in the air and add coolant until it comes out of there. I changed mine and pretty much use the same routene as with doos.
Sled has 0 miles - have owners manual - replaced the entire tunnel . . . no longer have the bleeding screw! Does the pump circulate based on temp or rpm's?

I have the same problem, it's smoking at idle after coolant change.
I think if you spill any coolant it doesn't evaporate quickly or run off, it has to smoke off.
I am hoping on my first ride out it will splash off when i'm on the trail. I think when it's idle it just pools and smokes....
It doesn't do anything funny, and I don't think it's overheating, so fingers crossed...I did the bleed procedure.
I'm not going to be able to ride for another week, so I might tip it on it's side and see if I can get it out that way.
As well, I had quite a bit of moisture coming out of the pipe last time I started it, I think some water condensed in the giant exhaust cavity over the summer.
