2006 Apex or 2005 RX-1.
I have a 2006 apex. This is what I've done to it so far. Speed sheath ( I don't think made a difference). Changed top gear to a 23 tooth. Had my helix shaved and installed a silver spring set at 6 and 2. 10er spark plugs plugs. Was tacking almost 11000. We raced on hard packed snow. 2000 ft my friend beat me by 3 sled lenghts with a stock 2005 RX-1. We both have 144 studs and he ways more than I. I was thinking of changing my bottom gear to a 40 tooth. I don't if I'm going to loose even more top end.
Is it because I was tacking to high? I checked my clutch to see if it was hot. It wan't.

AirWolf, Thanks for the reply. This will bring my tack down. Was I loosing speed because I was tacking to high? What are your thoughts on the 40 tooth gear?

yes

I running 22 - 38 for gears I have no experience with the 40 t

Did you loose top end with running 22/38?
Did you have to weight your clutch more when you geared it to 22/38?
Do you like this ratio the best? And what did it do for you?

set you silver spring a 3+3

thats way to soft for a silver spring, white at 3-3 or pink at 6-1. If you dont have tons of traction like an attak does go with pink at 6-1

I had the same problem try 3-3 and if that does not bring it down enough add more weight to the end to bring it down between 10300 to 10600 and you will gain 3-5 sled lengths. By no means am I an expert but this worked for me with great results and you can always put it back just as easy.

Apex

Are the RX-1 sleds faster than the apex?
Also thanks for telling me what spring to use. If I put in the 40 tooth I will probably have to weight my clutch some. Some one in here said they run a 23/40 gears and it really rocks. If you read this would you tell me what you did besides the gearing?
