Present Sled: 2011 Yamaha Apex 128
I was looking for a Skid Plate for a 2011 Apex under Yamaha Accessories and I did not see one? There was one under RX1 Accessories under Trim & Accents: RX/RS Ultra Plates:
Black
Item: SMA-8FA34-01-BK | Mfg #: SMA-8FA34-01-BK
Retail Price: $109.95
Your Price: $82.46

Do these fit on the newer Apex?

You bet! I have it on mine. I believe the only colors available are black, which I have, and red. I have a blue one that came off my '10 Vector and I put it on my apex and it looked like crap. No match whatsoever!

Where did you get your skid plate?

Port Yamaha out of Port Washington, Wisconsin. Great people. I bought the sled from them and had them install it. I installed it on my Vector and it was a pain in the arse!

I knew you were going to ask that! I don't remember but I do know I drilled the holes bigger. I'm 95% sure the drill bit size was 29/32. I had to "trim" the wellnuts a bit to get them in and after I did that, they were in there good and tight. Reason I used them was over time, the rivnuts have a tendency to loosen up and just spin.

I have a Rivet Nut Set and it has both Aluminum and Steel Rivet Nuts. I was thinking the Steel Rivet Nuts would do better than the Aluminum? The Well Nuts I'm a bit skeptical about because they are more for light duty application with more of a chance of pulling out.

get the well nuts for 1/4 inch bolts

this is what I used in the past...with a stainless screw and some nickle anti seize for easy removal..

just for a fyi this topic has been covered quite completly on here more then once the end all has always been the well nuts the rivnts are more trouble then they are worth the ones that come with the kit are the wrong size to stay in for the long run the one fastener that has held up and is also easy to replace if it ever shows signs of ware has always been the well nuts, do a search and you will see it for yourself just tring to save you some frustration.
