I just give my 2006 Apex SE a look over before our ride Friday. I noticed the slider bolt broke off and the hifax slid back about 4 inches. Now I cant seem to get the bolt out of the rail. Dose any one have any ideas of what to do? I guess I could pull the skid and get it but I dont realy want to. Please help. Thank you

I've broke a few.... I've just put sled up on side(with help) and took a small drill bit and drilled it out... used a "easy out"... worked fine.. just be carefull not to hi the treads..

tip sled, align a track window, drill hole in center of bolt(smaller then bolt) then use an easy out.

There was a thread on here where someone modified the rail by drilling out the hole, then opening a hole thru the side and inserted a nut. Thought it was a cool idea.

If I tip the sled on its side, will it spill gas and or oil. Thank you

Have a tap on hand to clean up the threads. Reason for break is it was never in all the way.sherlock29 said:I've broke a few.... I've just put sled up on side(with help) and took a small drill bit and drilled it out... used a "easy out"... worked fine.. just be carefull not to hi the treads..

I got it. Thank you. I tiped it on the side and drilled the bolt out. I drilled all the way through so I can put a nut on the top side. Thank you all.

That is what I did to my rails. Drilled out the threads. Put a 7/16" hole in the rail. Used a 1/4" bolt with a nyloc nut to hold the slides in. Works great and no worries about the screw stripping out or breaking off.

I always tip mine on the right side (throttle side)

Sledneck22 has got it. After a decade of dealing with that crappy system, its time to change it myself. No more stripped threads on the rail.

I want to add that the bolt I used does have a deep flat head screw driver slot in it. I wasn't able to get any taper headed bolts when I did this project so instead of making the slide to fit the head of the bolt I took a 1/2" drill bit and drilled out the slider. So the bolt head would sit in the hole. Basically it holds the slide from slipping back off the rail but doesn't exactly pinch the front of the slide down tight to the rail. I don't see a problem with this and am giong to be my own test dumby but so far it has worked well. Easy removal and reinstall and no worries of the damn thing stripping, breaking, or rounding the phillips head off. Just my $.02
