Guys, I am an avid fast trail rider with some ditch riding. I have located what seems to be a good buy for both an Apex with an MCxpress trail kit (put on by Ulmer Racing) and a CPR trail kit (not sure who installed it) for about the same money.
I know the Ulmer installed kit was done right with a head shim...however rear mount?! I have heard the Simmons kit is the better trail kit for lag, however has drawbacks of the heat/tank/header thing. Want some opinions as to what is the better machine...they are about the same price!

If you run studs and bang the MCX might be a little tough to keep together rxrider knows all about them. If Ulmer put it together at least you wont have to worry about install problems, rather just ride and keep track of any damage to the charge tubes or exhaust.
The CPR the main concern is the header looks like it will fail eventually sometimes it just takes a season or 3. I would hate to lose the gas tank capacity. Expecially considering the miliage I get on a nonboosted sled, I will be the gas hog already for next year with my SC apex.

MCX and studs is a challenge, hard to keep the MCX Y-pipe and rubber charge tube alive from the upper rear idler wheels and back, but all this depends on how hard you ride your sled and the amount of jumping you do. If you bottom out the skid a lot you will have problems. Running without studs and it's a GO on the MCX. There will be some lag, clutching cannot remove all lag, lag can be completely removed from a running start but from a standstill it will still be some. I have a frontmount now, it has no lag at all compared to a MCX rear mount kit!

I have a MCX rear mount and have 144 studs. I had problems at first but have now solved the issues... I mounted a extra set of hyfax's on the stock tunnel protectors and It has stopped all destruction from happening. Either kit is great. Choose what you feel fits you! I will tell you first hand the lag is about 1 sled length off the start... you no what happens after that

perfect example as switchback talks of. I have a cpr front mount 8lbs. boost and switchback has mcx rear mount 14lbs boost. I will pull him for about 100 feet and then i see his rear tail light.

Seems in the flat lands that more of the MCX sleds are gas and go, I know a couple guys with tons of miles that have never turned a wrench on them.

I bought a reaar mount turbo last year. Heres my take on the whole turbo/super charged game. I'm a trail rider and love the feel of Torque. I'm not one to blast 130mph run but when i get out of a conner and hit the gas there is nothing like it hold till your scared and let off. If i were to do it all over again it would be a front mount or a super charger. On my old 2 strokes its nice when you can blip the throttle and lift the skis in the air on top of the hill. with a rear mount you need to plan and start before the hill and by that time your doing 50 miles an hour and it's too fast. just my opinion if your going to trail ride it.

The MCX is very trail friendly, there is no lag when you are up to speed past 30 mph or 50 kmh. If you ride mostly groomed trails I can't see you will ever break anything or having problems with studs hitting. It's ditchbanging, jumping and riding fast on rough trails that will get the MCX kit into trouble.
With my front mount running 25T upper sprocket it will lift the skis immediately when I blip the throttle, not so with the MCX rear running 24T. I will be running 14 lbs and up in my front mount, I don't think a MCX is going to come flying by
