I bought late last year a 2006 Apex with 17000 miles. Machine runs great. What is the cost, approximately, for Yamaha dealer to check and adjust valves. I live in Wisconsin, Thanks.

You seem like a very handy fellow, have you considered doing it yourself?
I've always done my own but, based on the amount of parts removal and time considered, I'd be willing to bet you're looking at between $300-400. Even more if they actually need adjusted.
I'm estimating it to be a good 3-4hr job@$75-100 dollars per/hr for labor. Thats just to check the clearance.

You theoretically don't need to check that until 25,000 miles either. If no issue, I would skip it for this year.

Thanks guys. I heard the valve check was long, but now I have a number. The machine runs great, so I’m not touching a thing except for normal maintenance and lube/oil. The previous owner uses Amsoil. I will probably stay with that.

When it struggles to start or barely runs while warming up, THEN it's time to get it done.
Once warmed up, it will run fine so you could wait until then.
I don't believe in the 25,000 mile mark though.
Almost all my buds' were under 15,000 miles when they needed it.

That mileage marker originated with the bikes, I don’t believe the sleds should be pushed that far. 15000 miles is likely a much more realistic number for our use.

I tend to agree. I think the 25,000 mileage mark was a sales pitch to counter the negative reaction to having to pull cams to adjust clearance. Having a bucket arrangement in there does not change how well the seats will hold up to erosion and consequent valve recession and loss of clearance.That mileage marker originated with the bikes, I don’t believe the sleds should be pushed that far. 15000 miles is likely a much more realistic number for our use.

My sled needed it ! My bikes didn’t and I wring there necks , or did and still do on sled .believe it’s the load it has on the Apex engine, the drag the cold . . bikes I can take off at the release of the clutch , idle almost ,less drag , low rpms , warms temps . At 60mph on Apex I’m at 6000rpm maybe more ,/ // on bike less and this is just cruising . idk that’s all I got ..

I had a Cosworth (ok, laugh..VEGA!!) and it had shims, and the Chevy dealer way back sold me the tool at cost since they didn't have a clue..lmao! It was very simple..measure the clearances, see what shims were in the bucket tappets, order up what's needed. The tool held the tappet down so you could remove the shims easy. They were all marked but still good to mic them anyway. Never looked to see what the apex motor setup is. Sounds like it's not as easy.
