Hey everyone, great forum. I'm new so if I'm posting where I shouldn't be , I'm sorry. Anyway, I just put a deposit on a new apex xtx cuz I love the 10th anniversary black. I've never owned a four stroke sled, but I had a ride on my friend's attak and also on another friends nytro (short track). I liked them both, but decided to go with the apex because it kind of agreed with me more(don't know how to explain it). I do love to go off trail at times, but now I'm left wondering if I should have ordered the apex se instead for handling. Not sure if the 128 would be enough for the weight of the sled, though. Anyone got either of these and could give me some advice? thanks.

I like the XTX a lot more. With the add track you get better hookup and will work better for offtrail. A lot nicer ride for the bumps.

I'd lean to the xtx due to better flotation off trail. But it's still not a great boondocker due to weight. Six months ago I'd have said xtx for sure over shortie. But now I'm not so sure.....
An SE with Ulmers auto air compressor might just be the ultimate sled.

I really liked my attak and wouldnt consider anything but a long track for my riding area.

Thanks for the input. Most of my intentions in buying the stretched out version include a possible turbo after a couple seasons(something I can run on pump gas). I've only had one machine with a long track, and I didn't like it much, but it was a kind of touring machine. It has become a gift to my wife.
Can't even try to compare that to an apex xtx, though. None of our trails are groomed, so I'm kind of tired of beating myself up too. It looks like the XT-X is going to be the one.......if i can keep that train of thought going till the fall. decisions, decisions.

I think you will be very happy with the longer track. The only part that sucks about a longer track is the cost for a new one is more. Lol
I had an 07 RTX with a rail extension to144" it handled very good on the groomed trails and in the bumps. In the deep snow it was as great as a sled that heavy could be. My 08 LTX, at 136 inches, was not as good in the deep snow and not as good in the stutters. I didn't notice any handling difference on groomed trails at all.
For those reasons I went with the 12 XTX and I can hardly sit still. I do wish the XTX had the Fox Airs but maybe I can 'borrow' them when my buddy gets his SE hehe.
Enjoy your sled, which ever one you decide on.

I consider myself a long track guy all the way. Said I'd never buy another short track again, ever!
Well, Last winter I bought the 2011 XTX and really didn't like it so I sold it right away. It was not much different from the earlier Apex/Attak and the same problems that were prevalent from the prior version. I just preferred my Ski-Doo 1200 Renegade over the new Apex XTX so down the road it went.
My neighbor also purchased a new Apex in a std. 128" version. I was amazed at how much better it rode than the 144" XTX version that I had. Still has the other traits I didn't like about my XTX but rode much more plush. Also the new owner of my XTX also had a rail break right around 1000 miles. Yamaha would not cover it under warranty for some reason.
Heard of a few bad reports on the Fox Floats not holding air and have seen first hand the durability on the Floats enough to make me shy away from those models.
I ordered up a 128" std. version of Cat's Turbo 1100 to give it a try for next season as impressed as I was with Yamaha's 128" suspension over the 144"XTX version. If it is not as good as my Ski-Doo 1200 it will go down the road just as fast, but it appears as though, on paper at least, that the new Cat should be even better than my Doo, we'll see once the snow flies.
If you want the Yamaha I'd go with the regular std. 128" version for trail use for ride comfort over the 144" XTX. Never though I'd say that the short track rides better than the long track, but the suspensions are of a different design.

I just stepped up to a 4Stroke this passed season and decided on the SE version after taking a few factory demo rides. I was lucky to Demo these sleds on three separate occasions before making my decision and each time my rearend said the SE was the way to go. To me the XTX felt like a brick when compared to either of the 128" sleds. When it came down to deciding between the two 128's the SE felt a bit more plush than the std. version and I was also partial to the Black Beauty.....
My normal riding is on groomed trails in NY which vary from very smooth to very beat up and the sled always felt well within my control.
If you have your heart set on the XTX I guess you should plan on doing some work on the suspention to prevent the premature slider wear, seems to me that everyone complaining about slider wear is on the XTX. I got my SE about a month into the season and only put about 1,100 mi on it before the snow went away but it shows almost no hyfax wear at all. I love the sled and I'm sure you will be very happy with yours no matter which version you go with.
Oh and by the way, that engine will just about pull your arms out of their sockets!!!

I have the XTX and love it. For me it wa an easy decision, I'm a heavy guy and found out that the mono shock set up is too soft for my weight and aggresive riding. Torsion springs are a must for me so went w/ the XTX, no regrets!

What did you experience for slider wear? We have two 136" sleds and one 121" sled, the 121" literally has 4,000 miles on the slides- 136" are looking thin with less than 1000 miles on them. And the 121" corners noticeably better with identical setup to one of the 136" sleds. I also notice the long tracks ride a tiny bit better- I would not buy another long track unless I planned to boost for sure- and in that case I would probably buy a 121 and extend it with the boost.

I know most guys like the long track, but for ease of handling I'll take the shortie

I was wondering how your sliders wore. Did you add extra/taller wheels?
What kind of range did you get per tank of fuel? Looks like they made the tank a little smaller again. Can we run the trail tank off the Nytro on these things?

That is one reason its gone. Rode in good snow and they were gone in 330 miles. My 136" Attaks would go 4000 miles easy in the same conditions but rode much better than the 121" Apex short tracks IMO.
I purchased the offset wheel brackets but sold the sled just because I did not like many things about it. Slide wear and sticking being one of them.
