Ok I had the 07 rtx that had the ckc suspension and I could never get it set up to my liking and sense went back to the mono apex, and liked it better for ride and handling,so now enter the new longer xtx with ckc suspension and everyone who now owns it swears it ride beter handles as good and is even faster on top end,man that's a lot to swallow for a guy who has had many, many apex/attacks and never found my 136 to out ride or handle any of my shorties, and my one ckc was on a 121 track, but that sled was one of my fastest out of the box on snow sleds I ever had, bone stock unstudded it would run 112 gps on any hard rr bed,but it was not a bump sled Yamaha was touting at all,so in your honest opion, does this xtx do everything your shortie mono does and more. thanks

I demo the viper xtx a few weeks ago and it wasn't the best sled on the tight trails compared to the other vipers there,
I found the ltx dx to be the best riding sled there,
I'm in the same boat as you mnmsnowbeast, going to be pulling the trigger on a new apex soon and I'm 95% sure I'm going with the standard apex,
I only trail ride from tight twisty to open highways so I think the standard would be best for trail riding, plus the mono ra is a nice riding suspension on the trails...

The funny thing is the dealer that told me this,is an honest guy,and knows how hard I ride thru everything, but also knows how I am a top end nut,and when he told me this xtx has longer legs than the shortie I was going ya right,he swears the ones he has had sense 2011 all have had longer legs,ok so even if that did happen,i kept asking ya but it wont handle as sharp as a shortie,he said in 99% of conditions yes it does,i still don't know if I believe that. Now I did only get to drive my demo 2011 in Colebrook about 2 wooped out miles, and by no means is that far enough, and you and I both know set up is critical, and I am close to 250 riding weight, and am wondering if the springs on this sled is to stiff or to soft.Fabio said:I demo the viper xtx a few weeks ago and it wasn't the best sled on the tight trails compared to the other vipers there,

I used to have the 07 rtx also and now own a 136 mono and a 144 xtx apex.u are correct the 07 rode like dog crap no matter what u did to it I revolved my shocks and stretched it to a 144 and it still sucked! The mono rides good but my xtx with the star suspension upgrade in it is by far the best ride I've ever had! Great on all bumps and weight transfer is awesome! Not to mention it will go through just about anything and won't get stuck. My 07 would get stuck all the time not sure why

I have yet to find a Yamaha skid that will do everything as well as the Monoshock when properly equipped.

That's what I always have found to Brian, but this new skid in the 144 seems to be evolved much better than any ck in the shorter version (07 rtx) sled I had. Have you driven for any length of miles this new 13 or 14 xtx apex, just wondering your thoughts on it as well. Pete,
I own both.
Mono is better in smaller stuff but pretty good at speed in mid junk.
XTX is a little better in mid junk at speed, not as good as mono in small stuff stutters etc.
XTX better in big junk.
Stock springs should do you fine at 250.
I like the shorty a little better in the twisties but the XTX with the tip ups is pretty good.
Most find the XTX faster as your dealer told you. Not sure why Perry is finding the opposite but he is a no BS guy so I am sure it is true against the guys he runs with.

X2. It just depends on what you want and how you ride. I would assume the speed thing is all to do with the different gearing, and suspension geometry at speed.

I don't have experience with the 144" skid.... and to be straight forward, have little desire to. I've grown tired of trying to make dual shock ck skids do what the Monoshock already does extremely well. I'm a broken record with this, but the Ohlins w/ PDS is it. Why reinvent the wheel? The downside that keeps most away is the price.
As for top end, I suspect there is some friction in the Mono that needs dealing with.... I'm on it.

So what is this mod that they call STAR,it looks like they work the transfer rods, maybe change the angle of the first part of the coupling movement, seems like it would soften it a lot,and if they uncoupleit,it may be way to soft for a heavy aggressive guy?
