Was thinking about having new 121 rail's made with the xtx approach angle on them. Has anyone tried this yet and what gain's or loses have you seen. All the xtx guys on here claim better top speed because of it and i want the same gains but with a 121. Does this work?

I asked someone about this last year, and it sounded like a costly modification. I often wonder why Yamaha didn't just use the same approach angle on all FX Nytro's when it can only benefit and give positive results.

What's costly? Thought I seen some where having rail's made was about $500. Do you know who makes them?

I'm not sure I believe its all in the approach. It just plain bridges/floats and handles better at high speed, less power lost overcoming terrain. also the last thing a short track needs is less on the ground, bet it would be slower. my .02

um
well i started typing but caught the goof myself.
was gonna say why not just xtx rails cut down at the tip up, but the suspension geometry would have to be re-configured to the 121 setup.
(shock mounts etc)

Ice age manufacturing makes the rails. Get 136" made so I can try it!

Not to sure about that one. You ever put a shortie Nytro side by side with a dragon D8 or a Doo? The approach angle on those are less than the Nytro and it doesn't seem to effect them. That's what got me thinking about it in the first place, all the xtx guys talking about it and looking at my riding buddies sled's the approach angles are less. With that said it bring's me to beleave it would work. When you lower your sled to the ground for speed your track's approach angle is less, with speed gain's

I'm not convinced the XTX approach is perfect yet either.
It flat spots the sliders fast at the front.
Then I look at other skids from AC and Poo.
I see more of them with less cruve and more flat shapes these days.

Correct me if I am wrong!!
I thought the idea behind the approach angle on the XTX so it could handle like a RTX, but being long track. Also give the benefit of going into powder. I think those guys are seeing more top speed is a) more surface area on the snow, and b) the weight of the track is giving it more speed (i know this has been beaten to death) but thats my thoughts on it.
So all-in-all I don't think you will see a higher Speed on the RTX with an approach angle like the XTX.
I think (again correct me if I am wrong) get a set of drivers and a fully clipped track and you should see more top end!!!
My $0.02

I put new driver's on over the summer and a new 1" track, full clipped with all Ulmer's goodies, header, intake kit, PClll. It run's really good to, pull's like a mofo. just didn't see any top speed at all, same as bone stock but get's there way faster lol !!! Speed run's done on a icey rd so snow con. don't play a factor here. I have the power, with a good set up just tring to gain more up top. My thinking is rail's with a better angle might help

You put extroverts on? If you did, that's the problem for NO mph increase...

Larger tooth drivers might get ya a shallower approach angle and lessen drag on the track, but I'm not sure if they'd clear up front. You could run larger wheels in the rear too to lessen rolling resistance, might give ya more top end. Just some thoughts. Perhaps others have tried these already ?

I put extros on mine and the top speed stayed the same at 110-111 speedometer. I just cut the windows open on the stock ripsaw. It's a 121 rtx. I like the larger 10T driver idea, mite have to get my dealer to order some so I can measure them up.

My feeling on why the nytro is not a good top end sled is from how it cuts into the wind. Ive had sleds with alot less HP top out way higher than mine.
