My pointe in challenging him to a distance race is to show that overall the Attak is a better choice for most conditions you'll find in an average ride :ORC
Let me again say this is my opinion and I base it on my 2 sleds that only differed in the length of their rear skid.
Come on Dan, you really believe this dont you. Instead of riding in the UP all the time, come on over to Northern Wisconsin and let us know what you think about your 136 vs 121. Its all how and where you ride that should determine what sled you need. To make such blatent statements like the one I quoted shows your ignorance and is very misleading to people who may be trying to reasearch which sled is THE BEST FOR THE CONDITIONS THEY RIDE IN...

I should also say, if all I did is ride in the UP, I wouldnt have thought twice about which sled to buy. Attak...BBY

Last winter in an issue of Snow Tech they did an article about the fleet of sleds they rode that year.
One of them was an '05 RX Warrior. They said that it was either the best sled ever made or just average, based upon where you rode.
They said that if you rode in the U.P. it was a great sled but if you rode in Northern Wisconsin (their exact words were, "the trails in the Minocqua area") that it was a handfull to ride.
I know that this is only the opinion of a few magazine editors, but I think its worth mentioning.

If you want to know how a 136 rides in the Minocqua area. Talk to Bob out at Recreation Plus in Twin lake Wi.
That is where he does most of his riding and he prefers the Warrior to the RX1.

Some people prefer the smoother ride and better straight-line stability of the Attak/Warrior over the agility of the RX-1/Apex.
Its all personal preference...

I want to defend Dan here a bit. I to believe the turning thing 121 verse 136 is about as stupid as people complaining about a weight difference with 4 strokes compared to 2 strokes. If you haven't owned a 136 how can you sit around and tell me how it's harder on the rider in the twistys? No different then a 2 stroke guy saying negative things about 4 strokes when he's never owned one.
The benefits of the 136 far out weigh the negatives compared to a 121 in my opinion. One more thing how fast does one need to go though the corners? In my opinion if 136's really do slow you down then everyone needs to ride a 136. then maybe the trails would be safer.
However I don't think that's true. My brother and I ride hard. Ask Mr Sled. We had no problem going corner to corner with any 121 on our 136 RX-1's

The 136 sleds do track straighter.
My dealer Bob is a 136 guy. On 06 ordering day he talked about his recent Northern UP trip catching 30+ inches of fresh powder, talking about how powder was flowing up over the hood & windshield hitting his chest and lower part of his helmet the ENTIRE TIME.....more on that.
I spent an extra hour hearing him talk about the 136 sleds and at times I was leaning to the Attak.
This is what blew me away, it went against everything I knew.
I asked "glad you had a 136 hitting all that powder right?'
He said "NO. A 121 would have been better"................WTF?????.....
"Because the 121 would have been much more nose up and I would have had far less snow flowing at my chest"
That did it, well that and all the trails by the cabin are tight twisties.
Apex 121 is the best sled for me!!!!!!!!!

Thats the whole point. Its your opinion. We all have one. And this argument is getting old. Ive never owned one, but have driving plenty of RX-1s converted to 136 and Warriors. If the extra length was to my liking, then I would have ordered an Attak. I guess im done with this. Its pointless. Did I mention. BUY WHAT YOU LIKE, AND BUY WHAT SLED BEST FITS WHERE AND HOW YOU RIDE.
Whats good for one guy isnt always whats good for the next. For me, again I said me, the 121s advantages far outweighs the longer 136.
For me 121 advantages:
Funner
Easier to manuver
Faster
Lighter
For me 136 advantages
Better ride
Better High speed stability
Slightly better traction

One thing I have noticed about all the 121 vs 136 threads, correct me if I am wrong.
121 guys tend to say the pro's and cons of both the 121 and 136
the 136 guys tend to knock the 121 and cram the 136 is best thing right down your throat..... Not sure why this is tending to happen :?

Thats the whole reason I posted. Good observation...BBY
Tork: Maybe that's because the 136 guys have acctually owned both not just speculated. I kinda think teh 136 guys get sick of hearing the cornering thing. especailly since the 136 takes the bumps better, Has a better whole shot, works better in deeper snow, is more shore footed, and is better looking LMAO!!!!
Opinions are like as+s=hol+es everyones got one. It's nice to see opinions with some facts behind them. Not just speculation.
Riding a convert RX-1 for 100 miles is not the same as owning one and putting 5000 miles on it. Especailly when you've owned 121's your whoel sleddding life.
Ride what you like, post what you know, and keep them guessing!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now capt. i must step in on this post just a little if i may,i have ridden both on tight twisty and flat all out trails, and there is so little difference in the handling between the two its not worth mentioning, that is why i bought the attak and that is after i tested the apex a month earlier, and i owne your same poo sled right now,we rode it 2,000 miles again this winter, nice little sled, will it hold either attak or apex thru the tight and twisty trails? Not if i am driving either of the yammies, and more than likely not if any yammi riders out there are real agressive, the attak and apex handle that good period.... hell i had the 03 one ton 121 set up so good that i was smoking kids half my age thru some of the roughest and tightest trails we have in Maine, and they were on snopro zr 600s and mxz700x's now my back was way more beat than theres, but if you can hang onto your sled thru the #*$&@ stuff, but take a beating way more than the lighter 2-stroke twins and you win who cares,i will almost kill myself to beat up on some loud mouth that thinks he's the man lol hey pal if you had to race and ride what i started on you would be good on anything out there today,my first brand new ride was the 69 snosport rupp gt300 single, what a joy to ride... lol have a nice race boys and be sure to give us the results, but i think i already know what they will be.. ![Tg :tg: :tg:](/styles/default/xenforo/smilies/tg.gif)

No, assume makes an #*$&@ out of you and me. I have a Venture in my garage. Here again you are fist pounding the advantages and yet are angry at the slightest possibility of any trade off.jtssrx said:Tork: Maybe that's because the 136 guys have acctually owned both not just speculated. In the above paragraph you firmly state your opinion, then go on to say opinions are like Aholes. Then you imply that only your opinion is factual and everybody elses is speculation. PULEASE get real. You are taking yourself far too seriously and being insulting to other board members. Try to relax and get a grip.jtssrx said:Opinions are like as+s=hol+es everyones got one. I can ride a 136 for a 100 miles and form 95% of the personal opinion that I would have if I owned it for 5000 miles. Plus I do ride every sled I can as often as I canjtssrx said:Riding a convert RX-1 for 100 miles is not the same as owning one and putting 5000 miles on it. sxmatt is a new guy trying to get objective info on a very important decision. I'd have to say the way this particular thread has gone he would have gotten better advice at Doo-Talk.
Matt do your best to sort through the crapola and get what is best for you.
Frankly anybody who is trying to bend all the info their way I would regard highly suspect as to their agenda and I would not trust them.

Thanks

I rode both as did the others and I am in exactly the same position as you are. FYI....The week before I did the Yamaha test ride I did a 2000 mile bagger trip on a 2005 REV Renegade. It weighs in around 495LBs dry. I did not notice the weight difference when riding the Apex's but I did notice it when riding the Attak. SledheadGeorge was on the same ride and we had some manouvering in the tight trails and I did notice the weight in the corners more on the Attak than on the Apex.
Fortunately for me most of my riding is on 2 lane road width smooth flat trails at 60+ MPH all day long. You wouldn't notice as much in these conditons but if you do alot of tight and twisty narrow trail stuff, I would be on an Apex instead. That is my opinion and others "might"disagree but I rode them both and that was my observation, especially after coming off of a longtrack machine. Don't forget...the Yammi 4-strokes of the past hold some serious amounts of ICE in the tunnel. I used to knock chunks of ice the size of softballs out of the back of the tunnel. I also factor that in for weight as well. The 136" tunnel holds as much more ICE as well.
Hookup....that's an entirely different story....we came off the trail on the road and I distinctly remebering punching the throttle and the entire front end would lift....the shorty's did not do that....the Attak definatley has some serious hookup!
Right now....I am between a Apex ER, RTX and an Attak. I will make my descision the day I pay 8)
Just have to use your throttle more buddy

Maybe I'm just used to riding a long track in the trails.
