I have a brand new 07 Attak with only 198 kms. I went for a ride on Saturday and the machine kept overheating all day. The conditions were plus 1 or 2 degrees celcius and wet snow falling. I was also travelling fairly slow to break the engine in ( less than 6000 rpm ). I also had to travel a little distance to get home with the temp. light on. I hope I didn't do any damage. Anybody else see this happen ?
Oh boy, have we ever. Overheating is common. The system as designed by Yamaha is inadequate. Lots of guys have had great luck w/draining the coolant & replacing it w/Water Wetter. I had my dealer install a rear heat exchanger but the factory tunnel protectors need to be cut & you'll have to fabricate new ones to protect the exchanger.
If you add a little water to the high coolant content and keep her on good snow for the first 500 miles she'll cool right down.... these things are tight at first.... any low snow condition when it is brand new will heat her right up....
