attak skid plates and a-arm protectors

Other than floatation I doubt any of these offer that much protection. If you nail a stump head on or even hard from the bottom I think you're still going to be screwed. Now I can see the floatation maybe keeping the front end high enough in powder to help avoid a hit. JMO.

i know the ones i have work on mowing down 3-4 " diameter trees off trail and no damage.not that its what they are designed for but they can take my beatings.

i totally believe in skidplates and they work.i also installed the a-arm guards for floatation and they also work well at clearing trees that get in my way.the oem guards are just for looks as they dont give you much protection.heres a link with a pic and info of mine.

Ha! I know this is an old post. But I guess I missed the 3-4 incher comment back when it was made...

My long standing rule of thumb for boondocking has always been "smaller than a beer can." :drink:  Meaning if a tree is smaller around than a beer can, the sled will win. If the tree is bigger around than a beer can, the tree will win.

For fun, I just measured and found that a beer can's diameter is just under 3 inches. So I'm glad to hear that with my Rich Motorsports a-arm protectors (which are slightly used and broken in by Rich himself), I can now officially step up my threshhold to "a bit LARGER than a beer can..." ;)!

lol maybe when can test bigger one's this winter in muni.i just throttle up when i see a big-in in my way.

just wondering about the yamaha skid plate. how did you guys install them? b/c i think i've heard you can't put 4strokes on their sides. correct?

i used my electric lift.but you can also lay it on brake side because of the oil tank on other side might lose oil.

Rich,

Let me know ETA on the arm protectors.

Also what does everyone think about the shock covers that say yamaha or have flames? Worth it?

I dunno about the lay-down "rule", but I've never liked doing that anyway. And I don't have a lift. So I just hoisted the front end a foot or two in the air to make enough clearance for my drill and arms, put on a face shield, and did it laying on my back...there's only 4 rivets to drill out and replace with the included hardware, so it's not that difficult or time consuming.
