I dunno about the lay-down "rule", but I've never liked doing that anyway. And I don't have a lift. So I just hoisted the front end a foot or two in the air to make enough clearance for my drill and arms, put on a face shield, and did it laying on my back...there's only 4 rivets to drill out and replace with the included hardware, so it's not that difficult or time consuming.
thanks alot. that is what i was thinking of doing.

I put a skid plate on my Attak. Just warning it was a pain to install. I ended up using a tap an die set and bolting it on that way.

Why was it a pain to install? I did mine with the factory hardware in about 20 mins and that was the first one I have ever put on. Here are a few pics.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?? Did you really hang it up hooked to the front bumper? YIKEES! I've seen those front bumpers snapped off from trying to lift the front of the sled. My dealer told me that bumper was mostly for looks. I think you're lucky it didn't fall on you!

I had already disassembled the other mechanism I used as it looped around the front bars and up on to my rafters. See photos 7 & 8. But good point to remember.
