Hey everyone

Did a search on this already, and only turned up some info. My question is; what can I do to make the stock Attak skis work better. This is just going by everyones opinons on how badly the stock skis suck.

With it being a whole brand new sled, Id hate to remove perfectly new skis or something in place of another. My rididng style is mostly aggressive with some crusing, and the Attak will be studded with 168 studs, and a 13mm swaybar, mountain riser, and I weigh 190 or so with gear on. Im thinking of this shim kit everyone is talking about, and perhaps the bergstrom tripple points or Studboy shaper bar deuces.

Anyone have any comments on what would be the best thing to improve stock ski performance on the stock Attak skis?

Hate to be negative here, but the best thing you could do for your new sled is put better skis on it. I tried bergstrom 6" with shims on my Attak and the skis still suck. Push really bad and mine isn't studded. I put simmons flexiski with 6" carbides all around and it handles so much better in all conditions with no darting. Best $$ you can spend on this sled.

I ran the stock ski's with 8 inch Woody's executive carbides and had zero problems on my Attak. My suggestion is try them out before replacing them. My only true gripe was their lack of flotation once off trail. But IMHO the Attak belongs on Trail anyhow.......

I put a shim kit,ski savers and bergstrom tripple points on my sled and have no comlaints at all, it handles perfectly fine. Although, I do have to agree that there is no floatation in the stock skis if you are thinking about going off trail.

You could try ski-savers from Bergstrom with whatever carbide you want. I put them on my Mtn apex skis and darting was reduced alot. My buddies with an RX-1 and a Apex thought my sled was alot better than thiers in the darting department. The ski-savers reduced steering effort quite a bit also, but there was some trade off in the cornering.....Not like it would push bad, but it just didn't feel as sure as without them. For My riding style I found it an exceptable trade-off. Best part is from Bergstrom I believe he charged like 10 or 15 bucks for the pair when I bought his carbides. He wasn't really pushing them he just said you might want to try'em and see what you think kind of attitude. good luck!

Who's sled did you ride with SlyDogs??? It was'nt Mine

problem is it all depends on riding style and conditions.

I ran C&A outlaws and luved them, put the woody's dooly's on the wifes attack and she hated them as it pushed aweful, put my c&A's on it and they were awesome.

I have run the simmons but just not on the apex/attack

I had the same experience. I loved the Bergstroms, shims, ski saver combination on my SRX, but on my Apex it just didn't work. In powder or crust the stock skis are down right dangerous.

This is very true. 2 different days with different results. How often do we notice darting @ night?....Not very often. The sun goes down and the snow/trails firms up. That is why most grooming operations that know what there doing groom primarily @ night.

You are right, I didn't ride yours, sorry. I rode Keiths that had the stiffer sway bar.

You mean Tim?? He had stock skis on his sled with a 13mm sway bar.
Oops, Tim, Keith, it's all the same lol...........And yes you are correct, he had the stock ski's. It was the sway bar I didn't like. It transfered to much junk to my arms and made my hands tingle.

Looking at these ski savers, it looks like they would decrease the "bite" that your carbide runner provides in a hard packed snowmobile trail, and wouldnt that reduce cornering performance?

And I wont mind the 13mm swaybar, im used to any vibration, im young, and I can always switch the stock one back in.

I can always put on my USI's anyways.

So far it looks like stock skis with studboy shaper bars in the 9" carbide with it either being regular or deuce. The bergstroms look preety crazy, but im not sure if im sold on the tripple point, maybe ill look at some more reviews, and im not a fan of ordering through the computer.

Thanks for all the info so far everyone!, keep it coming!

Dont worry about the 13mm swaybar...

I love mine and i have corpal tunnel syndrome

Nice thing about the GT is you can dial down the compression to make up for the stiffer swaybar.. making it PERFECT.

Try shimming the stock skis wth 8 inch carbides.. WHen that doent work... get some new skis and realign them..
