Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think avi gas is 100 octain, and race is 110 right? I'm looking at an MPI stage one, which needs 50-50 pump gas/race gas. Now is the pump gas they base their mix on, 87, or 91 octain? I don't think I can get race gas around here, so why not use avi gas? Then I would need to run a higher avi percent avi gas then pump gas. Any body good enough with their numbers to figure that out? Or do you guys see a problem with this idea?

The following results were compiled by Intertek (fuel testing service)
OBJECTIVE:
To establish the RON (research octane number) and MON (motor octane number)
MON number is a better indication of fuel quality because it is more representative of high rpm, high load, conditions. The closer the RON and MON are the more stable the fuel is.
METHOD:
Use of CFR research engine with variable compression.
All test work carried out to ASTM D2699/D2700 standards.
RESULT:
100LL (Avgas) 100.5 MON and 103.2 RON (101.5 AKI)
91 premium unleaded 86.7 MON and 95.8 RON (91.2 AKI)
75% Avgas + 25% premium unleaded 92.9 MON 101.5 RON (97.2 AKI)
50% Avgas + 50% premium unleaded 91.6 MON 100.3 RON (95.9 AKI)
25% Avgas + 75% premium unleaded 88.5 MON 98.8 RON (93.6 AKI)

Hammer my vp dealer told me that vp111 was made for above the 49th, suppose to have winter prop to help start in colder climates, etc, its is close to vp110, vp111 has 107 octane.

Yes, but I did find out it exists, and NOW I know about it....lol
Like RED said, the RVP, and initial evap is probably better than straight 110 for those Canadian cold starts.

So is AV gas safe to use? Called MPI today and they said 110 octane race fuel only. I am only using a stage 1 SC on a RX-1 and want to be sure I'm using the right fuel.

I have run it when I can't get race fuel in my '03SCRX-1mtn. I wouldn't get crazy like I did this past weekend (couldn't get race gas to top off). I pushed the envelope by runnning the 100LL Av-Gas with Prem 91 pump in a 50/50 blend.
I don't run a knock box (might be a good idea) but the sled seemed to run better than with race fuel/prem mixtures in the past. It had a knoticable power surge around 6000 RPM similar to a trubo spooling up. My A/f readings were upper1s to lower 12s with water temps of 162.8 in powder and SC oil readings of 90s.
If I were to try the 50/50 Av Gas/Prem again I would definately want a knock box for piece of mind.

the can of C111 I got has no color to it and is not listed on VPs website. A drum of 111 out weights 116 by 29lbs.
