I have a 2005 RX-1 comming, and was wondering if there was a back up starter for that machine. Cause we all know that if for some reason the battery would go, we are screwed or not? Do they start pretty easy?

Bring Rope
Wrap it around the primary, put the choke on and go! It's not as scary as you think.......the primary actually doesn't spin that fast!
If that doesn't work...bring jumper cables.

A TY member has done it but I can't remember if they used a belt or a rope. My buddy handstarted his F7 once. I doubt you can hand start the genesis extreme. It is possible.
Not sure if it would work at -40 when it has been sitting a few hours.

I started my Warrior using a section of nylon from a ratchet strap. wraped it around the primary and pulled. The sled fired right up. I cant say how well this would work if the sled was cold of had been sitting over night
One should also post which way to wrap the rope to make sure peeps dont fire up their sled turning the wrong way.

mpi rx1 charging cables
mpi makes a charging cable that plugs into the exsisting headlight of any sled ac or dc and then it goes directly to your battery, If not you can always carry a rope , I think you wrap the rope around the clutch counter clockwise, I think
, hope this helps you out, deran.

Go to any cat dealer , part of their tool kit is a nylon strap used for starting if the recoil breaks. Has a small wooden handle on the end.

I dont think it is possible for a 4 stroke to be started backwards, due to the cam and valves

It has been done already. I believe someone from this forum posted a while back that he was able to do so. Of course, this was on a warm engine after riding for some time but nonetheless, it has been done on a RX-1.

I had to start mine with a 1" tie down strap. Worked like a charm once I figured out exactly where to wrap the strap around the clutch. CCW is the direction you want to wrap it in. It was surprising how effortless the pull was. RX FUN

Stinx, sorry about that...I just happened to re-read your post and you were only stating that the motor couldn't be started backward; not that it couldn't be pull started.
