The more I read the more I get confused.

Looking for a new track for my XTX. I do not like the ripsaw at all. I really like boon docking and have been blessed with good snow conditions the past two winters. Keep in mind our snow is not mountain snow it is prairie snow. So we can get dumps then turns hard pack in no time then slush to ice and start all over.

I am so confused on what track would be best for me. Every thread I read leads me no where.

I do like trails as well as boon docking but really just use the trails to get to our spots. However there are some days where we feel like driving a circuit to a different town(s) which could be a few hundred miles.

Lots of my buddies have 1.75" tracks and do fine. One has a backcountry on his XTX and he can beat me out of the hole all the way to top cause all I do is spin. His top end does not seem to be affected by the larger track. He also does not run extro's. He does seem to burn through the slides pretty good though. I can get two winters out of mine.

I like the sounds of the crossover but not many people seem to have it that can report that I can find. However it is heavier then the backcountry. I also like what people have to say about the cobra but it is only same size lugs at my ripsaw. I fear it may not be enough in the deeper snow.

So I do not know. Not sure how the back country will handle on trail when we are driving hard. The way I see it is similar to running outlaw mud tires on my grizz trying to keep up with guys on stock size tires but i could be out to lunch on this anaology.

Any input from people that have these tracks is appreciated.

I have a Crossover on my Attak. Great track. It's trail manners are way better than the Predator I previously ran. Good side bite when cornering and tracks very straight at speed. Braking is very predictable. Offtrail in sugary UP powder, it's pretty good. I am a lil larger than the average guy,300 lbs dressed out, so a little more traction or lug would be better. BUT, as an all around track, I couldn't be happier

Dave ;)!

I haven't tried a backcountry but i can say for a fact the Cobra is waaaay better off trail than the Ripsaw, and just as good on trail

I agree with Attakdog, the cobra is way better off trail than the junk ripsaw.

But it sounds like you have the most fun when you are off-trail, so I would concentrate on that a little more, and go with the larger lug track.

I've heard a lot of good things about the crossover, never really heard any real complaints about it. Would probably be a little better on the hyfax, and last longer than the backcountry.

With the 1.5 or 1.75 if you are worried about hyfax, you could get some larger bolt on wheels from Excel, which would help a ton.

I ran the BC last year and liked it allot but for our riding its was too much track, and to be honest I missed the safety of studs. But for you I would say BC all the way. It does a good job on aggressive trail riding, though I ended up destroying mine last year, but like I said I dont think its well suited for our type of riding. I will miss the off-trail traction of the BC but I am going to a 1.35" Cobra this year and I hope that is a good balance for me.

I am going to run the Challenger Trail (1.75) on a XTX skid this year. Of course this is in a Viper chassis. From all the reading I could find, this seemed to be the best track for heavy off trail riding without going to a 2 incher. It will obviously not be good for ice or real hard pack, but I use this sled predominately off-trail.

I get a kick out of guys who call the RipSaw junk. Have any of you ridden the old metal cleated tracks? Granted the ripsaw is not the best track for a number of conditions, but it is a much better track than most other tracks available when it was designed. Sleds have changed since then, and newer tracks have surpased it in many conditions but it really was a leap ahead when it was introduced.

The higher horsepower sleds, and any sled model designed to work off-trail do need a different track. I don't know why manufacturers continue to put ripsaws on sleds that they are not well suited for. It may be tied to an agreement with Camoplast to sell a certain number of tracks over so many years to cover the R&D, I don't know. However, the ripsaw is a great track for a trail sled especially 120 HP and less.

Sorry for the rambling . . .

I have not seen a challenger for a 144" skid? Where did you find that?

As far as the ripsaw, It is not very good for the XTX in my opinion. That is why I say it is junk. Kinda like stock tires on a quad. All it does is spin and never hooks up unless the snow is hard pack. Maybe good for high miler days but that is it. That is why I am looking for something that hooks up better and keeps me on top of the snow instead of plowing through it.

I have the backcountry on my RTX, best track i have ever had. I would never go back to a shorter lug track again.
In Scandinavia all 2011 nytros and Apexs are delivered with backcountry 1.75" tracks.

I've had Cobra's on the last few of my sleds, and really like them.
Can't compare to the BC, but in deeper snow it works great, and hooks up great on the trails, other than a miniscule ammount of side bite loss. If you push it extremely hard in the corners, it may tend to slip out a little bit, but that could be just as much a fault of conditions as the track.
They are also made of a softer rubber, and supposedly not going to be as good for getting a ton of miles out of them, but I have yet to hear anyone wearing one out.
I'll stick with them, its got my vote.

How is the cross-over or backcountry for side bite?

The ripsaw seems to grab good around corners for me??? Is a little slip a bad thing? On tires not that big of deal as it actually keeps you from rolling over. You just lose speed doing it.

I'm going to the cobra because of the loss of side bite and better off trail. IMO the best way around the corner is to have a slight bit of lateral slip so it helps to rotate the chassis

Sorry, it is a 146 with 7T - 2.86 drivers.

Had to set the skid back almost an inch to install in a Viper, so the 144 was too tight.

Another vote for Backcountry. They need to offer more options for 144" sleds. If i had a choice it would be a 1.75" ripsaw. But you would have to change drivers because they only offer it in 2.86" pitch.
