Battery question?

I bought my sled in august had a new battery installed. Drove the sled from the trailer in the garage. Removed the battery stored indoor in a heated space ever since. Performed all my maintenance. Installed battery last Sat. Deader than dead 6.2 volts? I verified the sticker on the side of the battery said 7/19 when I removed it. It is a Deka brand. Is it complete junk? I charged it over night took a reading and will check it in a week to see voltage drop. Any thoughts? Should I just toss it not sure the dealer would warranty it as they have no proof it was removed from the sled.

A battery manufactured in July, in our out of your sled, should not have died. Call them up and find out what the warranty is. Even walmart would warranty a batter longer than 4 months.

That’s kind of my thought. They are over an hour away and already included new skis, and a rear suspension arm I was concerned with at no extra charge as part of the sale. All they can say is no I guess.

It's not their dime if that battery took a crap. It's a cost of doing business to replace failed product. They may not be reimbursed for the time to put it in, so it would be good to pull it and swap, rather than take the sled in to swap. As a battery swap is about as cake as it gets.

Just a thought, but the battery might not have had a full charge before starting to move to garage. Then if it set for the months without charging, sulfation takes place at a increased rate for months. Not sayin thats the case but.
On the other hand, if it was charged at the shop, by a charger that puts out a charging voltage higher than 14.5 or so it may have been on its way to outgasing heaven before you got it.
Many AGM battery chargers charge at 15 + volts. Be sure yours doesn't. A GEL setting on many smart chargers keeps it within specs.
Recently checked specs for running voltage for my sled, to be sure the system its self wasn't gassing my battery.

But that new, they should have replaced it for ya.

they asked me to charge it fully and bring it in for a test. It past their test(of course). But since then I have started and warmed up the sled multiple times. I have not put a charger back on it at all and it has held steady at 12.5volts. It has performed flawlessly since they did whatever test they did. Or they pulled a switch a roo and gave me back a different one. Either way it has been in the sled in an un heated garage since the weekend after thanksgiving and hasn’t lost any voltage since.
