Battery Question

apltx08 - great link, very informative info from Tecmate :-) Your connection sure looks easy to use :-)

I remove the batteries from my sleds and put them on the Optimate III a few weeks prior to seasons start as a part of my season preparetion and service, when changing oil I have to remove the batteries anyway. I have never had the need to use the Optimate during season. I ride my sleds a few days every week during season, probably more than enough to maintain the batteries fully charged.

Thanks "rxrider" you have to make sure to HOT WIRE direct to battery with a in-line fuse and your all set...I also find it much better when your using accessories ex: GPS 'cause when you shut off your motor you still have POWER!

I picked up an 07 GT at the end of the season after parting out my 05 RX-1. Question on the 12V plug. When you guys wired direct, did you disconnect the plug under the dash at the connector and run 2 new wires with the inline fuse to the battery? I have not really looked at it too closely yet, but I would like to do this since I have the optimate. Whats the cleanest way to wire it up? If I remember right, didn't the optimate come with pig tails for a hook up to the battery? Is there a 12 volt male plug that plugs into the optimate? I have to go look in the garage and see whats in the optimate box. I can't remember now. I know there are a set of alligator clips. Did it come with a 12V male plug for the lighter socket?

Just trying to do it without hacking the wiring on the sled...

Thanks guys...

Yes "SNOWDOG" it does come with a pig tail to hook up to your battery but I find it easier and quicker doing it with the 12v outlet during the riding season you just have to unplug and go with the battery hook up its a little more work...

If you want to HOT WIRE your 12v outlet you just have to run 1 wire to your battery "+" positive with a in line fuse of 5 amp. make sure to hook up the wire that feeds to the centre of your 12v outlet to the battery and your all set, the other good thing by HOT WIRING your 12v is that when you shut the sled off your accessories still work, example GPG or cell phone...for the extra power lead you can use it for your heated visor or temp guage or any other add on acc...
