I skinned & cut up my 2 deer in the garage last fall when it was like 20* out and my hands could barely take it.
You gotta have some frozen cohones to be out in that my friend

-40c really isnt that bad, after a couple days you just get use to it. the warm up shacks tend to get used more often on those days. You do learn quickly about exposed skin and frostbite.

Hi Mike,
Â
We have very little experience with snowmobiles at this time. The best suggestion is to go oversize on the battery capacity. If your sled is 500cc 4 stroke twin the LX18 will be overkill for warmer temperatures but will give you the extra capacity for colder temperatures. If the sled is used in competition the weight savings is obviously a huge advantage. There will be some decrease in cranking performance from 60F to 32F. Below 32F (0C) the lithium battery internal resistance increases to the point which cranking performance will be greatly reduced. Once the battery is exercised enough to warm the cells it will crank as normal. The good thing about the lithium battery is the cranking performance will get better with more starter attempts. The voltage levels rebound well with 15 to 60 second rests between start attempts.
Â
Thanks,
Â

Re: battery
Lots of us up here in Canada where it gets freaking cold (I am in central Canada and have seen -51c) use Napa Glass Matt batteries.
When I put mine in my Phazer it honestly turned over almost twice as fast. I know about 5 others using it also here in Canada with zero trouble and great starts. I don't know if its the best one but I know for a fact it works damn good. Was not cheap.
$120 dealer cost when I got it....

I'm currently using a glass mat battery & am happy with starting ability.Just looking for the weight savings of the shorai. But if there are cold start concerns, I would not consider it.

What's the CCA for that battery and does the size fit the Phazer well. Do you have a part #?MikeWalters said:Traildemon said:I'm looking at the shorai battery for my RX-1. My only concern is their performance in extreme cold (-20F etc) . ever have any issues?

Mike Walters, which one did you use. The Napa parts numbers seem to different in Canada on some parts. Thanks.
I am using the AGM batteries from walmart for two years now still good to go.

Hey sub zero riders here is a site that test the Shorai batteries and some of there results. The stock battery turned over at about 320 rpm before it fired. I will see what rpm the Shorai turns over and report back.
