Just got back from a 125 mile ride where my XTX was started and shut off all day with no problems hot or cold. On my way home I noticed rpms were low at idle. When I got home I shut the engine off and tried to re-fire. It cranked a couple times....showed code p1338. Cranked it another couple of time and then the battery went dead.

I've since put it on a charger and it fired up no problem with no codes either.

Any ideas ?? Has always started hot or cold. It has not had the reflash as it didn't seem necessary. Original battery with just over 5000 miles. All cables were tight.

Maybe it just time for the battery to be replaced ??

What is the recommended replacement battery ??

Thanks !!

You are going to need a voltmeter to confirm charge is being made by sled. Then load test batt. All it can take is a bump to short a cell in batt. Rare but it happens.

I had the same thing happen top me last year, I needed a new battery.

I'm in Canada I just bought one from Canadian tire with the best warranty.

Nope they just go kaput like that! last yr at the beginning of the season I went to the UP with my 14 which had 1 season and a summer on it. was on a once every other week trickle/maintainer all summer. Started fine loaded it up. got to the UP started it rode about 20 miles and stopped for lunch. Came out and it just barely turned it over, had to jump it to get to the dealer which did not have any charged. He confirmed on a tester that I had several bad cells and had to wait 4 hrs to get new one charged.

I killed the battery cranking last night.........gauges would still come and fuel pump would cycle............ so I charged battery overnight. This morning....gauges come on....fuel pump cycles but will not turn over.....just click.
Battery says 12.8 volts.......load tested ok.

Dealer says p1338........crankshaft spike.......is a voltage issue. Recommended cycling the key several times before engaging the starter. Even before I killed the battery last night I never saw the code again. I'll try the cycling method when I get home tonight.

I bought a new battery anyway.....we'll see if that works.

Never had the hot/cold reflash done......maybe it's time.

I used to get the p1338 all the time also and after new battery never again.
