I removed the battery from my sled the other day to do some maintenance. Battery starts the sled fine and holds a charge close to 13 volts.
I took the rubber cap off the top of the battery to check out the acid level in each cell but they all looked dry. I held it upside down and nothing.
My question is, should there be acid in the battery, or are they a dry cell type battery?

There is definitely supposed to be acid in those cells, unless you have an aftermarket battery.

I use the Yuasa YTX20L-BS that is found in many snowmobile, motorcycle and 4-wheeler applications. It is factory sealed and is maintenance-free but does have acid in it. I have never taken apart a maintenance-free battery so maybe you just cant see it or it is designed not to leak...?

The link above has some good info.
