Looking for input on throwing a belt drive on my viper. 250 hp turbo. Looking to get rid of some of the rotating mass and save some weight not that it matters. Haven’t seen a lot of input or history of this on the vipers. Let me know what you guys think, have heard they tear through belts! Any input helps guys.

Lot of talk but nobody wants to give up reverse. If light mountain sled It wouldn’t be too bad dragging it off trailer! Viper is my first sled with reverse. Never missed it but this sled is a pig wieght wise. Go for it!

I was under the impression that you cant do it for a trail sled like you can for a mountain sled. something to do with the belt wouldnt be able to withstand running on a rough and packed trail, instead of riding in the mountain fluff. to much grip would snap the belt

That’s what I have heard rumors on as well, they aren’t good on trails, but then again I haven’t heard of many doing this on a viper....

I have a Sidewinder MTX 162 that i am doing a belt drive on here as soon as parts show up in the mail. As of now the plan is to convert the chaincase to cat splines using BD-Xtreme's change-over Yamaha to cat jackshaft then i have a 26 top gear and 66 bottom gear coming from TKI as well as their tensioner for a 2018 arctic cat M8000 with the dropped and rolled chaincase. Hopefully with some shimming and a little luck i will be able to keep the stock oil tank right where it is and bolt it over the new belt drive. If not I am planning on making a bracket that will attach the oil tank to the front of the engine in the little cubby hole between the motor and bulkhead. If all that lines up I would also like to get the lightweight track shaft and brake rotor for another 5.5bls of weight loss. And according to my bench racing math with the belt drive/reverse delete i should be at -35lb weight loss with this setup between the gears, chain, backup gears and chain, hardware, reverse actuator, chain case fluid and lighter track shaft and brake. Gonna suck sacrificing reverse but for that kinda weight reduction I'm willing to live with it. And with even more guesstimation numbers the dry weight of the sled should be around 498 lbs dry with my lightened seat, battery, can, heat shields and insulation.

Ill post pics when i get to tearing into it.
