Belt Problems?

I just had my 07 Attak GT in for it's first major service after the break-in (the service ran $300 Cdn - dealer said it was basically a PDI). After I got it back, took it out on the trails for a 2hr ride. Noticed twice that starting from a complete stop the RPMs would hit about 6000 before the track would engage followed by the smell of burning rubber, all the other times it was fine. In the first 800 KM, never had this happen before.

If this is the belt slipping - why would it be happening now after the dealer serviced it? Should I just use acetone and a mild scrub pad on the clutches?

Any advice appreciated....

Nope - parking brake isn't on (hey, ya never know, so not that stupid of a question from some of the stuff I've read on the site)

It's the original Yammie belt, and it looks like it's in ok condition (like I said, it only happened twice in a couple of hours)

I don't think the track was completely locked up while coming to a dead stop... the times it happened it was at road crossings.. which typically I just coasted to a stop at.

I've had a few stop sign's come all of a sudden and when you lock up the track right to a stop the belt stays down in the secondary. Starting out in high gear requires more RPM and makes quite a noise and some shuddering. Thought this might be what was making your belt slip and smell. I try to let it roll the last 2 or 3 feet and it allows the belt to move up.

Thanks Mikecam... I'll pay more attention if I'm locking the track up or not. I noticed that the sled does rolls more when I'm off the throttle after the tuneup, and there doesn't seem to be as much engine-braking as before.

Here is another dumb question....... How bad is the ice build up? Check to see if maybe your hand brake cable froze-up, maybe the lever is down but thee emergency brake is engaged?

Check your track tension...maybe they got it to TIGHT!

Have they fooled around with with secondary clutch, maybe its not wound correctly ?

So I just called the dealer and talked to the Service Manager.... they didn't touch the clutches, only to inspect the ride height of the belt. He said new sleds experience this every once and a while either when you lock up the track coming to a stop (like Mikecam said) or during slow de-acceleration... where the belt doesn't have a chance to reset. He said it's normal (although didn't happen once in the first 800 kms).
