BELT SQUEAL AND ISSUE WITH REVERSE HELP

Your hands. If the reverse don't work and you give it throttle you could smoke a belt, and break some internals in the chaincase. Take belt off and put it in reverse and move the secondary forward, if the track moves backwards, reverse works. Move the secondary backwards and track should move forwards. Put Chain case back into forward gear and move clutch forward, track should go forward. This is how I test our chaincases, and the 08 vectors with 14,000 and 16000km's have never had reverse linkages adjusted.

So reading the very first post, what do you think I should do? Take the other shims out and leave it the way it was?

Had the exact problem with my reverse. When you pull the lever out it would grind and creep forward. What i found was the 90 degree bell crank that connects the 2 linkage together was loose. All i did was tighten the 1 bolt that it pivits on and all was good. Hope this helps

As I mentioned earlier...check your reverse specs in the manual and adjust. The chain could be loose...the linkages could be loose...a bearing could be shot, etc. Your squealing/binding clutches may be a symptom of a problem in the chaincase.

Why would the reverse stop working after shimming secondary tho? I'm just super confused

is there any noise comming from the chain case when you run the sled?

okay so you need to look at the linkages and see if they are tight if they are check to see if the measurments are to spec. also check chain tension.the secondary shold not effect the reverse shift unless it is getting pressure from the belt tring to turn it. try putting it in reverse with the sled off. if it dont go into reverse properly and all exturnals are to spec then its time to open the case and see if there is a prob in there too.

Another thing to check is to take off the horizontal linkage and see if it is centered in the hole. If it has pressure one way or another it could also make it difficult to get into reverse

OK, these guys are correct. I thought that my "belt squeel" would quit after a bit, but 1000 miles later, still squeeling, still hard to go into reverse. I finally pulled 3 little shims, belt stopped squeeling, and reverse works perfect. Now my belt sits dead even with top of secondary(this is lower than I would go on all the poos that I have owned).
