I found a good deal on a bender exhaust for my 2003 rx1,Is there any performance increase or just the sound?I had my stock exhaust gutted and now back to stock.I did like the sound of the gutted one.It would be nice to gain some power Thanks

bender exsaust
Bought an 03 Rx1 last year and it came with a bender exsaust, the sound was awesome, more like a wild crotch rocket. But i removed it cause it was too loud for trail riding.Performance wise i think the stock one is better,i have all bender parts in my clutches,it works great with the stock exsaust.I can make dust to the 09 Apex.In Ontario,if you get caught with an after market loud exsaust you can get a fine,so i got rid of the bender pipes.

Exhaust
Hi i am looking for a cheaper exhausts system for my 03 rx1 or even a used one if you know where i could get one. Also what are your thoughts on a k+n air filter kit.

My Warrior came with a Bender exhaust....makes it sound like a piped crotch rocket bike. It's definetly louder than stock, but not obnoxious loud like a can on a 2 stroke. More of a low rumble.
If you ride in very "sensitive" area, as in there's people nearby who might complain, you probably should stick with stock.
I think Bender claims a couple HP gain with the pipe, but don't buy it thinking your sled will be faster.
It sounds nasty, and I get a lot of comments about the rumble at idle. I love the sound.
Forget K&N filters. They're massively overpriced. Look in the tech articles for the air box mod.

Zero performance gain with the Bender exhaust. This has been proven on the dyno. The sound is better but NO performance gain. I don't care what you do with the exhaust system on the RX-1, as long as it is cooled by the snow/ice/water thrown up by the track, you will never get any performance increase. Even if you saw a performance gain on the dyno, it would disappear once the pipe is cooled in actual operation. I have a bender exhaust on my Rx-1. I like the sound and the weight reduction. I had the entire exhaust system from the head to the exhaust tips ceramic coated, mainly to get rid of the ugly looking welds.
Go to the MODS section and look at Sled Dog's post on the air box mod he did. IMO, this is a far better mod than using the K+N airfilters. The filters have served many very well but will not give the same performance gains as a modified air box especially if you do not use adapters to make a smooth transition from the air filters to the mouth of the carbs. The ECP air filters (no longer available) had to be squashed down to getthem to fit the mout of the carbs. This causes a lot of turbulence right at the worst spot. Look at the stock air box, it has transitions from the airbox to the carbs. The lenght and dia. of these are tuned to deliver max. performance. The air filters throw this important feature away. Ted Jannetty, developer of high performance mods for the Yamaha sleds, developed an air box mod kit and has shown the modified air box produces 2 Hp more across the entire rpm range for the RX-1. I had the ECP air filter kit and made my own "velocity rings" based on the ones found in the stock air box. Mine are a snug fit to the carb mouths and are held in place with 3 set screws, no of that epoxy crap. The exhaust noise is too loud for my long distance crusing (250-300 miles per day).
