I have a Bender stage 1 on a 2003 rx1 I am tiring to fix. Owner says the sled ran great for 10 minutes then started to malfunction. It now will only reach 5000 rpms and will not go faster than 40 mph. It feels like it is running an 2 cylinders or is starving for gas, air or spark? I have tried the following:

Changed all plugs, coils, clutches, gas, cleaned carbs, checked for air leaks in carb plumbing, confirmed power to aux fuel pump, comfirmed compressor fan is spinning, inspected wastegate it looks closed) A/F runs about 14 to 1 at all times. Confirmed 150 PSI compression on all 4 cylinders w/3 head gaskets installed),

Also disconnected turbo, sled still performs the same without intercooler hooked up. Engine will wind out to 11,000 rpms on the rack when belt is off but still no boost.

I next plan to check fuel pressure ( no changes were made to the fuel regualtor), inspect under tunnel for exhaust clogs.

I think I must be overlooking something obvious any suggestions?

No boost? I have one here that warped the Bender Y- and pipe, and came out of the stock pipe up in front. Would not build boost at all. Some where to begin.

There may be a restriction in the piping in front of the IC not letting the engine get enough air to build boost. If your piping for some reason is clogged partly sled will run fine at low rpms but will not build boost, been there done that, left a cotton rag inside the IC. Sled ran 5000 rpms and 30 MPH and no boost.

Mine did that when my head gasket went. The sled was warm, was riding a few hours then it lagged really bad couldnt get over 6lbs of boost and 50mph. Then when I lost the rest of the coolant from the resevior then it ran decent for another two hours. After it sat for a day it wouldnt start...then found the reasoning behind what happend.

Or if your lucky..maybe the filter broke and was sucked into the intercooler?

Not sure if that's lucky..it'd kill the compressor wheel in the process!

I think I can rule out the intercooler block since I have the problem with or without the intercooler mounted. I also think I can rule out head gasket because I still have full comperssion on all four holes. Y pipe could be suspect.

I had a similar problem with my Vector last year, only it popped & farted in the process. We went through evrything about 3 times, ended up putting dielectric grease in all of the connections.... runs great now. Just a thought.... ;)!
