Best after market ski for Attak?

Swiss sledder is right, need to know what you don't like first. Have 3834 miles on my attak now, tried the shaper duece but went back to the woodys duelies. Some push but always managable if you drive sanely. No darting at all. Hey studdog, I have seen the bergstrom triples but where can a person look at the slydogs, haven't seen these before?

I think www.slydogskis.com They have some great pictures. They were recommended to me by Allen Ulmer of Ulmer racing. They performed as advertised for me. I'll have a set on my 07 Attak GT! studdog

What I don't like about stock skis is there seems to be no happy medium to control darting without creating considerable push in the corners. The push is managable if your only going for short runs but I've just returned from a 400 mile trip and the push got to be too much. I've done just about everything suspension wise, including shimming the skis and trying 3 different sets of runners. I've never had this much trouble getting a sled to handle.

Thanks again guys for all the help on this subject.

If you want to eliminate darting, simply install a set of Bergstrom Triple Point 6" carbides and shim the skis. That will cure 95% of the darting, but it will still push in the corners under soft or fluffy snow conditions. This has been experience with this set up.

If you want to eliminate the push, install a set of C&A Razor skis or Slydog skis. Both have a single runner and in my opinion, a single runner ski is the best solution for the rider forward chassis. Keep in mind the steering effort will be greater than the stock ski, but it you will eliminate the push. This has been my experience riding another Attak that had C&A Razor skis. The extra steering effort was acceptable for me.

Thanks for letting us know what you didn't like. I was afraid we were offering you solutions but didn't understand your issue. ;)!

Swiss Sledder:

Thank you very much. Right now I am leaning towards Studdog's suggestion of Slydog skis with triple point Bergstroms.

Thanks to everyone.

To bad the season is over for us here in Maine, unless you want to go back up to the county,i would of let you try my boys rtx with the simmons,it was unbelivable how good it handled, the floats help some, but it would just rail around corners and on ice it was even better,we raced the course on sat. up in caribou, and the sled just plain rocked, now i have doo precision skis that i thought worked real good, until i took my sons sled for the weekend, rode it 350 miles of pure pleasure, than got back on my apex er with stock skis shimmed w/6" carbides and i couldent believe how much i hated that sleds set up,and my friend shawn thought it was so much fun driving my er with the stock skis until we swaped for a while and he drove it back home the last 30 miles,he was blowing me away, while i was blowing him away all day earlier,he said it felt glued, and i said no #*$&@,i told him i was getting both pairs for next year, another pair of floats and simmons..

Hey, I said it first! LOL

Bert, One problem with the monoshock suspension compared to traditional suspensions is less adjustability of front ski pressure. This makes it a little more difficult to fine tune. I got my right for me by adjusting limiter strap one hole tighter than stock. studdog

Curve XS skis, period. Put them on my Apex Ltx and didn't have to mess with suspension at all. Just bolt on and go. I can't say enough about these skis. What a difference. They appear to be very durable and well constructed. The fact that the perform like they say the do left me extremely happy with the product. For what I gather from what i've heard this is a start up company. If this is true I can't wait to see what else is in store!

I've been totally pleased with my Slydog Powderhounds. Intallation was about 10 minutes and they've survived 1000 miles in Montana and about 250 miles around here with marginal snow.

I'm using plain 'ol 4 inch 90 degree carbide.

i have had many different brands, kind of a hobby.

simmons, but only with shaper bars. stock bars are awful. like these the best so far for all around control and float. ugly though
second would be use 301 with shapers, very good, looked the best of all skis.
stock ski with shaper worked very good unless snow was deep. not much darting as with all the ski tested if the carbide is shimmed correctly
c=a pro i didnt like, great in beat up trails but on fresh groomed, almost unturnable uless on the gas. i would guess the rasors would be better with the lower keel. very ugly ski.
skidoo percision, tracked good but were useless on any amount of snow, no side to them they just pushed through the snow. looked good though
the best version of the stock ski i have found other than the shapers are to install cat offset duallies, you need to reweld some studs but they work great, track like a train, dont push in the corners.

tomorrow night ill be trying curve xs skis with shaper bars. these skis look ok, not ugly like the simmons or the c+a, but not as good looking as the 301. heavy ski, 7in wide on the ends, less than 6 in the middle. i can see some issues with them already and will give a full report on them later this week.

if you want your stock skis to handle good go the the cat store and get the long version of the offset dually. they work great and you can put alot of ski preasure on the front and still turn easy, and not dart.

I am very happy with my Slydog Powderhounds on my Attak. With them and suspension setup, I have very good handling and no darting/tracking. I have the front springs loosened, limiter strap shortened, less transfer. Good luck.

Just tried out my Slydog Race skis for 60 miles on the hard packed trails with 7.5" shapers. They make the sled feel as if it is riding smoother. They corner bettter & easier than the stock ones. The harder I took the corners the better they carved & the easier the steering effort required. Toed them in between 1/8th inch & neutral, no shimming & there was little if any hunting/darting felt. VERY PLEASED WITH THEM.
