Best method of converting 153 to 162?

Been searching for what is the preferred method to go from 153 to 162? I can't believe I haven't found a thread with the best options, and solutions.

Obviously a MountainTamer is ideal, but I can't spend the $3,000 between skid and track this year.

I'd like to buy the 162 rails instead of rail extensions, but is there 162 rails for a 2009 Nytro MTX? Or would I buy 162 rails for an 2009 Apex MTX since the 10-11 are different?

I have a take out Nytro 153 skid I bought in 2009. so i would keep using my cut lug Maverick for trail use with the stock 153 and then either buy 162 rails or extend the extra 153 skid to use with a 162 CE.

So where do I go from here?

Next, is there a thread on a good mountain setup for a stock skid?

I went from a 153 to a 162 this year. I already had a TS skid.. .but the process is still the same.

Purchases a set of 162 rails from IceAge (skid appropriate as it makes it easier TS mounts or non TS mount and which axel). Purchased a 162 PC track from Midwest Power Sports. Dropped the skid, replaced rails and hyfax. Removed chaincase, drive shaft - swapped tracks - i also went to a 18top gear to achieve better grab with the 162. put skid back in and turn the key. I know that sounds simple - but it really is that easy.

You can get tipped up rails from IceAge, or if you go with a ext kit - you can get tip up too. Me - i didnt go with tip up. Dont ride enough trails to care if tipped up or not...

Rails are a chunk of change vs a ext kit... dont be afraid of ext kits from good places - it is just as strong.

Extensions are way cheaper and work just fine. I went from a 151 to a 162 on my vector and didn't haver any problems or issues worked great.

Save yourself the time and money. Sounds like you eventually want a mountain tamer, but not yet. If you are heading that way just get the rail extensions now. If you get the track and rail extensions from tracksusa they will sell you the extensions for $100. I you get nice rails and then want to get the mountain tamer you are just giving your money away. Extensions take about 20 minutes to mount verus the whole rail shebang.
