Guys, I thought what the heck I'll save some weight and try to improve the weight transfer on my RX-1M so I purchased the MPI transfer enhancement kit. The Mountain Viper guys raved about how it was the best $49 they ever spent.
To be honest the only difference I could notice was my track was now ratcheting like a mother and my trail manners seemed to diminish to some degree. It must be the way I have mine set up.
Could those of you who love this kit on your RX-1M please post how your front shock on the rear suspension, rear shock on the rear suspension and where you have the straps set for optimum weight transfer. I have extroverts to install so ratcheting shouldn't be an issue for me anymore (I hope) but it may be for others. I did tighten my front shock on the rear suspension one click up from the softest setting thinking this may improve my transfer but I haven't been able to see if it helped yet since we have no snow. My rear shock is also set as soft as it will go. Thanks for the help (again). Powder Blue

Powder Blue, I'm by no means a mountain rider, I do make a few trips west to the Big Horns and Cooke, but I'm just going by theory here and what grass dragging has taught me, maybe it applies to the West as well.

By loosening the front shock on the rear suspension you have actually lost transfer due to the fact that when you nail the gas & get the sled under load the front of the suspension will collapse & won't have any pressure on the front of the track, this will also cause your track to ratchet. If I was you I'd crank that front spring pressure up and leave the rear shock softer & the FRA adjuster soft. This will really help with your transfer.

I also have the MPI transfer kit but i do not have extroverts yet so does anyone know how i can set mine up so it doesn't ratchet for now. I will be getting extros eventually but right now i am just trying to control the ratcheting somewhat...any suggestions??

By the way... How come the rx-1M ratchets so bad with a 151 when there are cats and polaris with longer tracks that dont seem to ratchet?? just curious?

SRXSPEC, my thoughts exactly on the front shock in the rear suspension. That's exactly why I tightened it at the end of last season. Maybe 2 clicks up from the softest would be evn better? I have the straps that replace the function of the transfer rods so loose and it just didn't seem to help. I had better tighten them a little so I can steer  Thanks Powder Blue

PB,

Both of my shocks are in center position and the MPI kit is at their recomended settings. I can't remember what those are right at the moment. It does not suprise me that you have lost some trailability as your ski lift when accelerating should increase. Make sure your limiter strap is out all the way.

Jay,

I don't think you will stop the ratcheting if you have installed the MPI kit and have no extroverts

Thanks Spray, I had better pull the instructions out and shorten my straps somewhat. I just kept lengthening them because I wasn't seeing the transfer I wanted. Both shocks in the center. OK. Thanks. PB

JayR are you going to be the tour guide for the Tollgate area? I'd sure LOVE to come down there some time.

PB-

lets get some snow and i would be happy to show around down here... or maybe we should go to halfway?! never been there but heard it's awesome... We do have about 5" at our cabin right now...keep it coming!

Sounds good! Where is "Halfway"? I know it must be halfway between some where and somewhere else but where is it? Is it in Wallowa county? So how does this apply to weight transfer? Ah? Well if I don't have the weight transfer thing down I could get stuck "halfway" Powder Blue

PS: It's a bad thing to hijack your own post. Oops.

Halfway is about an hour and a half north of Baker city. Actually i dont think its halfway between anywhere! I have a few friends that go there and they say its unreal... huge bowls, no trees...lottts of snow!! :D  :D

But i guess i should get some extros first!!!

Spray, What kind of extros do you reccomend and are they that hard to install???

JR

Wahl Bros seems to be the accepted Extros. They aren't to bad to install, but you HAVE to use a press. Make sure you get good measurements and double check the alignment BEFORE you put everything back together. ie. put axle back in secure it and measure the gap between the track and tunnel on both sides to make sure it is the same. Of course make sure the drivers are lining up with the windows too.

If I was you I'd crank that front spring pressure up and leave the rear shock softer & the FRA adjuster soft. This will really help with your transfer"
What's the FRA? The limit straps?

Thanks I will print this post after a while and try the stuff you guys recommend.
Spray, did you ever find the extrovert measurements from the end of the shaft ect.
JayR, halfway it is. Spray is almost there but you can't get there from McCall unless you can swim the Snake and Hells canyon and climb like a goat.
Silver Streak, the FRA is the full rate adjuster and the limit straps are the black straps that keep the rear end from falling out of the rear end after the transfer rods are removed. They are adjustable but I wasn't seeing as much transfer as I'd like so they are way out there way beyond the range of movement of the rear suspension. Powder Blue

Are you saying my RX can't do that?

PB, No, I'm sorry but I can't find my measurements.

OTAH BUCKWHEAT, I think I have them around here somewhere but I would trust your measurements more than the ones I have from others. Thanks for looking. Guys, I appreciate all your insight. Powder Blue
