Put a set of ice scratchers on and your hyfax issues are history. RSI makes a good set for about $50. I only use them on ice /hardpack the rest of the time I hook 'em over the rails.
Check the pics. This location seems to work well and was an easy install

no fabbing required, you'll notice theres not as much thread for the nut to grab on to but theres is still plenty of thread, just not as much as the stock wheels due to the wider bearing. This does the same as adding some slydog bogies but at a lesser cost. Works great for me and simple install. If you wish to do the 2 front inner wheels you would need to machine your mounts to center the wheels between the rubber lugs on the inside of the track. didnt bother on my apex or the xtx either.

I think a real fix to this problem is loosen the track and run extrovert drivers ,cause I think the fast wear is due to a tight track on long travel suspension.

Funnything I notice from todays ride (hard conditons after the rain) the Apex and Phazer where burning up there slidders with No snow on the rails....my XTX lots of snow on the rails and it was fine.
I wore out my slidders to the wear line in the first 150miles...since then she's been sitting at that wear line for over 500miles with no wear or burning...so guys just let them be, you'll see it stops wearing
Btw hit 109mph speedo (104 GPS) today...Apex GT was at 109mph GPS...not bad we always seem to be aroud 5mph off from each other

I installed a set of Slydog wheels on my RTX shortly after I bought the sled, got over 4400 kms on the stock sliders and they still look fine with plenty of plastic left. I do try to ride in soft or fresh snow whenever I can, otherwise, I can't attribute these results to anything other than the Slydog wheels that are supposed to have a cooling effect by design.

The slydog wheels just replace the stock ones?

The yammie sliders have worn like that as long as I remember. the wheels only start to help the wear when you get close to the line. You can tell when they stop wearing cus you don,t feel like your riding with the brake on all the time anymore.

I finally changed them at 3,000 miles, just because. They could have gone more. Yamaha's slides seem to burn down fast to a certain point and then wear like iron. Most people see the slide worn more in one spot than another and think the slides are gone and change them. Of course the next pair do the exact same thing!

Yup. I believe they're 535's for the front, and 725's for the rear, very slightly larger than stock when compared side by side. They work great for me.

Installed the slp wearpads and put on 1000 miles in crappy snow conditions... The first 3/4ths wore down fast and the last 1/4 lasted about 700...

PRE HEAT THE SLIDES WITH A HEAT GUN OR TORCH . BETTER THAN TRYING TO DO ON THE TRAIL . LEAVE THE TRACK EXTRA LOOSE , AND WHEN YOU HAVE TO REPLACE IDLER WHEELS DO SO WITH SLIGHTLY LARGER DIAMITER ONES FROM DOO OR POL... IT IS BETTER THAN LITTLE WHEEL KIT FROM YAM...
wheels
Put skidoo 135mm wheels on my 09 fx and after 700 miles they have no slide wear at all.Replaced the 2 by the front shock and the outside ones half way back on the outside. Also added a small wheel kit that I had off my apex from fix power sports to the inside just in front of the rear idler wheels.

1850 miles on my XTX with SlyDog wheels and Hyfax have not moved since the first 300 miles, there is about 1/8th inch left of the wear line, I wont change them till I have to.
