Only place the amount of carbide is going to be noticeable is on ice or super hardpack.Profile of the ski and wearbar are what matter everywhere else.

Good question yamajammer, I won't be running studs either on my Xtx. I think I'm gonna try your setup with 4inch inside and 2 inch outside and see. It's pretty cheap to switch out for a plain bar on the outside after the fact if it's too much.

I was at the dealer yesterday and they had some ski's on display for sale. They are wider in the front than the rest of the ski. Don't have a pic, but is anyone using these? I have an '08 MTX. The ski's were listed for $138.95 each.
I used 6in carbides on everything or longer as they last longer. There isn't much difference in how hard a sled turns with more carbide, it is more about setup.
I have run arrows for years with 6in and they worked great on sleds with no studs or loaded
here is a comparison I did last year

What about flotation if i ride 60 on and 40 off would the mtx tuners be overkill on my shortie when i do ride off i ride deep tho
I don't think they make tuners in a wider version right now. wish they would make a stepped version like a powder pro. They are a full 6in wide, 1/2 wider than the stock skis.
If your running a shorty and off trailing the sled, your on the gas alot more than a long sled has to be. I think your going to be off your skis alot more as well because of this. Though, every little bit helps when your out in the deep. Wide skis also have a negative effect when your off trailing with a trail sled. Trail sleds are wide so they bicycle harder than the narrowed up mountain sleds. if you put wide planks on it, it bicycles even harder because that inside ski wants to climb up out of the snow. the narrower the ski, the easier it is to bicycle the sled in the powder. The bad effect I see with a nitro and somewhat with an apex is with narrow skis, if you let off the gas in the powder, the sled wants to disapear.

My Tuners are supposed to be delivered today. I will give my feedback after I get them. From everything I have read they appear to be a very good upgrade to the Nytro for us people who don't want to plow thousands into the sled, but still have a nice handling Nytro.
I believe they are 1/2" wider then the old stock skis so I would imagine there should be some flotation improvement in soft snow. 1/2" doesn't sound like much, but if you figure both skis add an inch and figure the length of the ski you actually are adding several inches of surface area to the snow.

I went with the skidoo pilot DS skis as they where dirt cheap and are 6.5" wide, they are amazing both on and off trail!

The MTX ski is a great trail ski as well. Very cheap ski with good float and nice trail manners. Its nice to be able to grip the hard stuff and turn in the soft trails. Ran them on my XTX. My MTX did not come with them but bought some for it as well.

How do you find the mtx ski on groomed trails or really hard packed lake snow? I need bigger skis after today every time I let off the throttle the slightest I just plowed snow with the nose

With the Yamaha MTX ski vs stock ski or the pilots I used, I had way more confidence in my sled. It just handled better in every condition. No push in corners and tracks well on hard pack. Only issue I had was when riding with Polaris sleds it would track with them. So it was just one more reason to be in front of them.
It is really a food ski and happy with them for the cost. I would say best oem ski hands down.
