Thanks
aj
Each Turbo is sized for a specific HP range base on Air Flow In LB a Minute.
In this case the 2554 can only produce about 7-10 lb efficiently, when you run it at 14 lbs is makes more heat due to air friction, reducing efficiency.
When you step up to the next size turbo, at the same shaft speeds it flows more air in LB a Minute, there for More boost but Less heat.
That is why 14 lb on a 2554 and 14 lb. on a 2560 is so different.
Now You can lose efficiency by running too big a turbo at too low a boost pressure, This puts you on the other side of the compressor efficiency map.
The bottom line is Turbo sizing is Rocket Science, and Should be sized according to many many factors, One Size does not fit all.
Bigger is Not Better, Smaller is Not Better, Each Combination and it's intended use decides the Right Turbo Size.
There are individuals on here touting Turbo Sizes with no basis of knowledge other than he said she said or my sled this or my sled that, so beware.
I let Math and Physics and Experience decide.
Ted.
That is what I thought the answer would be, Thank you for taking the time. I know this topic is chewed apart every winter. But after playing with boats all summer, I need a refresher course.

Here are a couple of shots of my conversion to 2560R with Ted's guidance and parts.
Had to make a bracket for the waste gate. No big deal! Added water lines to the turbo in addition to the standard oil lines.

I'll be down 9-17 to discuss the process. I spent this afternoon tearing her down. I'll call you before then.

Does the stock heat shield still fit with that new turbo setup installed? Where did you tie in your water lines? Can you get away with tieing into the running board coolers?

Yes the Heat sheild fits and the water lines hook to the carb cooler lines up front.

i run a 2560 ,that i bought off ted last year and replaced my 2554 with it and it is a huge diference .this is on a front mount powderlites kit on an 04 rx1.you will not be dissappointed with a 2560.ted knows what he is taking about when it comes to turbos .my sled at the same boost level ,the 2560 felt more responsive .
