Was riding across lake yesterday and my 2003 RX1 with 2800 kms blew a belt and in doing so the coolant exloded out the bottom of the sled. It is now stuck up north waiting to get picked up. My question is ...has anyone ever blown a belt on their RX1 and if so has it ruptured a coolant line. Im hoping that is all that happened but not sure until it gets to a shop. The belt blew into a million pieces and is shredded into the clutch. Not a pleasant experience and not an expected one for a fully serviced sled with only 2800 kms. Yes we do lots of full throttle riding so I am being told to change the belt every season.

there is a hose that runs through the plate, about 1 inch thick that is exposed for about 4 inches

I know it doesn't look like much but the entire top of the belt was gone into a million pieces. I was lucky I had no real damage except one hell of a mess. I'll bet you flat out cut the hose.

Or yanked the hose right off the steel pipe it connects to or the heat exchanger.

I was looking at that hose yesterday when I was changing my belt.
I was wondering what would happen if a belt blew.
Now I know!
I will have to keep a close eye!

ok I have the full scoop.....
when the belt disintegrated it bent the cover plate back and one of the pieces hit the hose so hard it dislodged it, causing the hose to fall off and split. My Yamaha mechanics have never seen anything like it. They believe that these belts should be replaced every 2000 kms. The torque of the big motor and weight of the sled and the combo of high speed drags and runs will create more of these problems.
learned my lesson.......check/change belt frequently....cheers all

Changed my belt at 4500 miles. Still looked good and debated leaving it on. Perhaps it was an omen that I changed it.

Man thats bad....
what belt is best. IN my experice it seems on Yamaha sleds that the oem belts work best.
What belts do you use????
I am currently running the yamaha...
