Running down trail 7 going into Waters and my belt blew. It was so bad that only half

Of the belt was visible when I removed it. Bad part was it riped a slit in the return hose below

The clutch. The hose has a plate over it but where it heads back to engine side it is open.

Took my buddy sled back to Precision Repair right on the trail south of Waters and got

Gallon of anti freeze nursed it back.

He put a larger piece of hose over the part that was open to protect it. You might want to do this

To your Yamaha.

Dean the owner a real good guy does not take credit cards!!!!!!!! Try getting cash advance on a credit

Card when you don’t know your pin # took all my cash and my buddy’s cash.

One more thing there was two doo rider there when I picked up the sled, Dean was explaining to them

what happen to sled and how he fixed it?

You guest it first out there mouth to me was THAT’S YAMAHA FOR YOU.

All I said was I know how fool proof your sled are!!!!!! #*$&@ hole

I have warned about this before on the early vintage RS models. Cutting up a piece of aluminum and riveting it to the existing "protector" is pretty much all one needs to do. Luckily my hose only got cut when a belt blew...you weren't so lucky.

Sucks that you had to put up with the BS comment too!

They were laughing when they walk out the door-----doo guys all the same

I forgot to mention I asked the owner what might cause the belt to blow and he said the clutch kit would cause it??????
Anybody here of this, if so the stage one from ULMER IS COMING OFF. The belt was new this year and done it two times before

I can't say I've ever heard of it. If memory serves, an Ulmer Stage 1 is pretty mild. Something else is wrong.....have you contacted Allen Ulmer to get his thoughts? If you haven't you should.

do you have a pic of this area to help see the issue and remedies anyone??

I do not have picture, there is coolant hose that run under the secondary turn into the engine area. Where it turns into engine area it
is not protected. The guy that repaired mine put a over size hose in area exposed. What I plan on doing is make plate for that spot
to protect it. This cost me $130.00 plus a new $70.oo belt

I will see if I can dig up a picture and post it here.

Here is the area on my 05 Vector, If memory serves, they changed it on later model Vector's but when I do not know. I think this area on my 14 LTX is protected better.

The stock aluminum shield that you see here is .080" (2mm) thick. All one has to do is go buy a small sheet of similar size aluminum, cut out out so it overlays the existing shield, bend it up slightly so it doesn't rub on the hose and rivet it on with HD rivets.

That aluminum shield Part# 8FU-2198G-00-00, pictured above, only costs $11.75 at Port Yamaha. I don't you can make it for less than that.
