So this sled has always backfired when starting cold. Emptied the oil tank twice. Now ate a big hole in one piston, no explanation as to why they think the sled did this. Dealer has no clue. So I sit and wait for the last two weeks as to why it blew up and what I am going to do with this $18,000 sled that isn't going to be ridden this year.

Why is there no warranty?

sounds a little waek I would contact Yamaha Canada and the turbo you have installed was the factory authorized kit not just the other kit mpi sells right.

I wanted it to all be warranty so I ordered everything threw my dealer.
I am talking to Yamaha Canada. They retracted the not warranty and submitted me a were looking into it more .

I am still paying for a sled that I will not be able to drive until next year. Make a year of payments on it but it will be a year old model with under 500 miles on it.

WOW! It looks like from the photo of your head that one cylinder was running lean. Maybe a faulty injector :dunno:
Anyways I would definitely fight for the warranty

Usually it's the center cylinder that has issues in these motors, surprised by this.

Looks just like a 2st with water in gas. No way to guarantee gas quality and that is reason I wont buy a 2 stroke. Gas sucks. Looks like Turbo is out of question now also unless motor is designed for it. Either go all out or dont do it is my opinion.

If yamaha is all gung-ho about these trails turbos, and I know they are, they need to make the engines a bit safer to handle the boost, head studs and a slightly thicker head gasket would help, and by all means put a knock sensor on these things and make them smart enough like the cat turbos to start pulling timing if it needs to cuz by the time the knock sensor goes visible the damage has been done. I'm sure the cat ecu isn't helping matters at all on this either.
