boosting the ole gal... 03' rx1

Took the sled out for it's first real shake down... and made it home! But with a few more questions

Setup;
20/40 gearing, clutching shockwave and heelclickers (loaded in the front/rear, middle is empty)
162x16x2.5 CE
under tunnel exhaust
A/F= at ideal at 8000'= 13.8-14.5

MPI supercharger
pulleys 24/24

Snow conditions 2+ feet of powder with little base, so the sled was sitting deep in the snow

Issues;
only making 5lbs of boost? figured i should be seeing 7-8 but I never was over 9000 with my rpm's

RPM's were maxing out at 8-8500, figuring i'll drop to a 19 top gear and pull a significant amount of weight out of the primary, plus get new springs

major snow bog, this was the real killer we dropped into a significant basin towards the end of the day and the snow was pushing over the hood and the sled just would not run well when i turned to make the pull out she died and would only run about 1/2 throttle making pulling out a huge undertaking!

I've read on the site about snow bog being an issue with the under tunnel exhaust and that some folks have had success with snorkels? before the supercharger i had the same issue and installed a fan which worked great to move air in the engine compartment while riding deep snow. but with the charger there's such little room and I was getting significant snow packing in

I should mention the high temp for the day was around 0, and the engine compartment was making a ton of steam and icing up the air filter. I really think the snorkel out of the engine compartment is my solution.

My RX1 used to do that also. I put filter material on all of the hood vents. I have not had it happen since. It was always on a very cold day with a lot of powder. If you put a snorkel on you will have to re jet. Starting line had a large piece of the material.

Low boost on SC is caused by your sled being off the target rpm. Shoot for 10400-10500 at WOT on the RX1.

Jetting rule of thumb. AFRs at:
Idle: 14.0-14.7
Engagement: 13.5
0 lbs boost: 13.0
5 lbs boost: 12.5
10 lbs and over: 11.8-12.0

These number are valid no matter what altitude your riding at. Remember, jetting for high altitude will cause lean jetting down at low altitude and vice versa.
