I see this very often...someone calling a set of runners slim jim doolys. Please correct me if I am wrong...but there are Slim Jims and there are Doolys, they are two similar styles, but they are not the same and/or one.

I guess I could be wrong never ran them but slim Jim is a brand Doolys is type meaning two carbides on one runner. my understanding is Slim Jims are a set of narrow spaced dooly carbides. woodys makes doolys stud boy makes doolys I don't think dooly is a trademarked name but like I said I could be wrong it could be like how people call personal watercraft Waverunners no matter who made them when in fact that is a trademarked name for Yamaha brand.

Google slim jims and everyone calls them slim Jim doolys. The way I always understood it as the original was woodys doolys, then the narrower version was called woodys slim Jim doolys.

Read that link, they are both Dual Runners.. but only one is called the Dooly. To call them Slim Jim Dual Runners.. is completely correct.

Slim jim dual runners is fine, however to call them slim jim Doolys is not. You know what you are referring to when you call them slim jim Doolys, but others may not.

I now understand and agree how some may be confused and not understand exactly which style someone is referring to when someone refers to them as that.Slim jim dual runners is fine, however to call them slim jim Doolys is not. You know what you are referring to when you call them slim jim Doolys, but others may not.
Doolys work well at eliminating darting - the Slim Jims reduce darting as well along with provide additional benefit of reduced steering effort in hardpack conditions due to their height getting the keels of the ski to penetrate less or not at all on hardpack conditions but still maintain good aggressive steering in all conditions as all the weight of the front end is solely focused on the carbide on hardpack and when in loose snow the slim U-channel shape of them drops down into the snow and allows the keels to work and provides additional keel due to their U-shaped design. I'm a fan of the Slim Jims especially when running more aggressive keeled skis (C A Pros, Curves, Slydogs)s on the newer rider forward sleds. Now that we are on the subject, which type do most prefer, the Doolys or the slim jim?

Either of the Woody's Dual Runner products seem to perform better than the Studboy "Deuce Bar" I had no luck with those and have a nice lightly used set for anyone that wants them. I have said it before, even though they are more expensive than stock or entry-level bars, the Dooly is the best bang for the buck to help out stock Yamaha skis without replacing the entire ski.
There are better options of course, but for the price, the bang-for-buck is pretty darn good.
