I might have over tightened as it won't stay completely snug....what size is the bolt? I think the bolt stripped a bit......at least I hope that's all it is.

Anyone help?

Thanks,

Brett

Like SJ said, Steel bolt vs aluminum tank, Steel bolt usually wins. Drill and re tap the tank a size larger and you will be good to go.

If it is the tank threads I would suggest installing a Keen Insert. You drill out the existing bore to accomodate the insert and you can even go back to your original size plug. I have done this on my quad a couple of years back and have never had any problems since.

If this link doesn't work just google keen insert and you will find all the info you need.

thanks guys. It get's somewhat tight then if you continue to tighten it becomes look again. Do you think it would hold with some locktite? If not, I'll look into tapping/insert. I've never done it so would hate to mess it up worse......

the risk is too great...take the tank off....take your time..do the insert...youve got a motor at risk..

X2 on that , its not worth the risk, get it done rite you have time before the snow flies.

anyone have a used unit or know of shop who could do this for me at a reasonable price? I'll tackle solo if I have too but would prefer a professoinal....

contact laneo he has parts...if no luck there...let me know I might know where one is...

Drill and tap, so easy a cave man could do it, no need to remove your tank, Measure hole with a drill bit set, go to hardware store and get one size larger drill and tap and a bolt, Drill, tap, and flush out with cleaner, put in bolt- but not too tight! :) Fill oil to level, have a beer and call it good. It's aluminum and will tap easy.
