sleddah, is it a GT or base model w/dial on side of tunnel you have? 'cause it makes a big difference for proper set-up...
It is the base model, NOT a GT. Something else I forgot to mention, the engine braking is weird!!! LOL. A concern I have is when decelerating down a slope, it goes into a very good "coast" gear, almost a feeling of having the clutch pulled in on a motorcycle while coming to a stop. When I bring it out of that and accelerate, it really shifts hard with a jerk to it. Seems awful hard on the chain and shaft but again I have never had a sled like this. Any one else have their 2 cents on this?

If you want more rebound adjusment you'll have to go to a after market re-builder and get a REMOTE reservoir added on your shock, guys like HYGEAR or SHOCTEC in Toronto can do this type of add-on.
For the weird shifting you have YES its normal...you just have to play around with the FLIPPER and you'll get the hang of it, you coming from a 2 SMOKE its "PRATICE" makes perfect lol.

Well, another 60 miles on it last night and all is awesome. The shifting, I am starting to understand. I believe as this sled breaks in (only 96 miles on it now), the shifting (harshness) will ease up a bit? Correct me if I am wrong. Also, I had to chuckle. I was fighting it in the corners a bit last night. Looked at the limiter strip after we were done, and there is no tension at all, it is just "there" not doing anything. So.... I will at least put some tension on it this weekend b4 we ride. Still a little nervous about the mono shock not cutting it, but have yet to bottom hard. Where do I get information about that "FatBoy" spring I have been hearing about?

I honestly don't think a remote reservoir is really needed. Sure it will only help, but the big thing all of these Yamaha sleds need is simply a good multi-stage shock revalve. A revalve is cheap and if you do it yourself only costs somewhere in the $10-$50 dollar range, but a remote reservoir and multi-stage springs adds up into the $400+ range quickly.
I'm not talking about a crazy stiff shock setup either. Pretty much as soft as you like through low and mid speed compression with enough firming up at high speed to control bottoming is all it takes to get a great riding sled.
The main advantage that a remote reservoir provides is extra cooling for the oil. I ride quite hard (so do you - at least we did on Saturday...) and I've never really felt I needed a remote reservoir on any of my sleds. When I ride with some of the very aggressive riders, we do ride a little harder and faster than we did Saturday, but not by much at all.
I am reading about transfer rod problems now. Yikes. Is this a common problem area as well. Geesh Yamaha, this is an 11,000.00 sled, why are there so many "little" things.

No problems w/ my transfer rod. 5000 miles and alls well.
All sleds have small problems if you ride them. If you leave them parked in the garage they will stay problem FREEEEEEEEE.

You have to be careful about assuming that problems you read about from a few posters here on TY4 represents a widespread problem. The other brands have the same number of "little things", if you read their brand-specific internet forums, but most of them also have a few "big things" as well.sleddah said:I am reading about transfer rod problems now. IMHO, if you assume that every post here about every problem that somebody has means that that problem is going to happen to you, you'll drive yourself crazy. It's all interesting information to have, but one has to keep it in perspective.

Remember 1 thing, if it doesn't bottom some, you are not ussing the suspension to it fullest potential. Maxdlx

JUST KEEP IN MIND.
Change your turn signal fluid at regular intervals and you will have NO PROBLEMS.
