Ok so ive always been a 2 stroke guy and wont ride anything but yamaha in the winter, I race Ski-Doo on the IWA Watercross circut in the summer.. However I bought a 04 RX-1 from work on tuesday and want to fiddle with it, I want to mod the Airbox if anyone has pics of that or what you do.. And is there any other bolt ons that help out? I am aloso doing a 136.. I took it out yesterday and it only turns about 9300 and I know they should spin over 10000, I am a mechanic at the dealer I work at but have not dug into any 4 strokes yet.. And can the crank seal behind the Primary be changed without pulling the engine.. The guy who traded it in blew a belt and there is cord wraped around the shaft and is seeping a small amout of oil... Thanks in adavance, I have been a member of the TY for years and have always had good luck with info here..

go to the air/intake forum on this site for a writeup on the airbox mod by sleddog. the seal behind the clutch can be changed without engine removal i believe, but i remeber it being hard to find in the microfich but it is a separate part. if the clutching is stock install an orange-silver-orange spring in the primary and a silver spring set at 70 degrees in the secondary. you want the rpm at 10500 plus or minus 200. use allignment tools to check offset, center to center, and that clutches are parallel.if adjustment is needed the motor can be moved.

Rpm should be 10,250 give or take. Yes the seal changed be replace by just removing the primary clutch. I have done this task, so know it can be done.

What holes is 70 degrees?? sorry.. And thanks for the input, I will do just that..

the clutch sheave has 3 holes for one end of the spring numbered 1,2, and 3. the helix has 4 holes numbered 0,3,6, and 9. the setting is in degrees so 70 degrees would be holes 6 and 1. 90 degrees would be holes 6 and 3, etc.

And what oil should I use in this engine? I ride very hard and will be on the throttle alot..

I use a full synthetic 0w40 and change the oil and filter every spring prior to storage.

Really on a sumpless system where is the drag with hot oil?
Mike Knapp ran 0w30 in his attak and he could beat the sleds he rode with. He changed to 0w40 amsoil and they could then beat him. He switched back to 0w30 and he could beat them again. Look up his posts. He talked about it in detail.
