This weekend just outside Huntsville, ON, in Dwight, I creamed a rock just off the trail. Thanks to the guys at TekVest for making some solid gear. I ripped my lower A-arm out of the cast aluminium bulkhead. Has anyone else done this? If so what was the cost and time to repair.

Thanks,
Kevin

Damn...that sux!...

On a side note, you were in my backyard here!...sorry for the rough trails,it was our first major weekend with decent snow and as you probably saw traffic was all over.

goodluck with the bulkhead.

It is a slow job to get the engine out ,but not as bad as it looks at first glance. The bulkhead is in 2 peices and you have to pop out the engine to fix it or replace it usually.
On my 05 rx, my wife glanced over a rather mild rounded up rock that protruded thru the trail. Like one of those round humped rocks the groomer bounced over. It smashed that right side bulkhead to bits. Those things are brittle and paper thin, and I'd say built from recycled beer cans and stop signs.
I was lucky,as my ol buddy Dynoray is only 1/2 hr away, lol.
I went in there at about 10 pm and he helped me get the motor out onto the bench in only a couple hours. If you have never done it before it is time consuming though.

....another time when I threw a rod out through the side of the block,I was at a lake only a few miles from his place,lol..but again I was lucky and he was with me . Once again he had it out in no time that nite and had me a list of parts to order the next morning.I was ripping up the lake again the next weekend.Practice makes perfect I guess, lol

As bigdog mentioned I have a new bulkhead ready to ship. Its both sides, with the steering rack mount, all 4 a-arm bushings, and its all bolted together as they come from the factory. This will save you a couple hundred over your dealer. Eric

I was looking at another wrecked Apex in the dealer yesterday and I don't think engine removal is needed, at least I hope so. I'm turning it into insurance so I'll be getting all parts through the dealer.
The bulkhead seems to be a 2 piece unit. Can just one side be removed?

Thanks,
Kevin

BTDT and in Canada too.

'04 RX-1 - I had to drill out a bazillion rivets, and pull two engine mounting bolts on the front. Also had to take off both halves to seperate. Not sure about the Apex??? Good time to replace bushings too.

Just remember where the brass colored bushing is on the broken one and put it back the same offset and your clutch alignment will be very very close.

Good luck!

I did essentially the same thing to my Apex............$5300 estimate to fix..........Hopefully done Monday to go on vacation............
