Hey guys,

Anyone else out there break a front pivot arm in the mono skid?? I have an 06' Apex gt with a pioneer performance revalved and resprung ohlins and I broke the front arm in two places and not on welds. Is this an issue, or has any one else busted one too????? p.s. 4000 miles

Jim

Let's say it's not uncommon to break one. If the suspension bottoms hard,it'll break arms. I bought my gt a year after it came out,and after hearing some had cracked arms, I rewelded all the welds on both arms and now have 9200 mi. and haven't broke it off yet. My shocks are revalved also, so my suspension rarely bottoms, and feel thats what saved it.

hey warts,

I am talking mono skid not ck. But I have seen more than 6 broken w arms from that skid. My buddies break at least two a year 1 per sled per year.

I had a couple of small cracks I had to weld. Have over 15,000 miles now and only had to weld once. Had to repair the W arm a few times on my SRX.

I have broke mine twice this year. Seems to be better after putting in a lot of fab time. Riding buddy broke his last weekend, it was broke completely in half! Two seperate peices when he took it out. There is a on going post about this in the stock suspension forum.

Did 3 welds last year and 2 this year.

I'm not impressed, but again you should see what sometimes we put those suspensions thought.

I'm on pivot arm #3. 1st replaced under warranty and second cracked to the sides of where the limiter strap wraps around it as well as part of the tab that bolts to the slide rail. Seems to be a few versions of the pivot arm floating around out there. I have a spare, send me a pm if anybody interested.

Either i'm tough on sleds or the pivot arms are the weak link, also broke them on my viper and srx.

If you ride hard, the monoshock's front pivot arms fail fairly regularly. One of my buddies has gone through 5 on his 06 Apex ER and all of my buddies have gone through at least 2.

I've also broken both the front and rear pivot arms once on my 07 RTX, but the pivot arms on it have significantly outlasted multiple sets of pivot arms on some of the 06 Apex I ride with.

Yamaha does have a reinforced front pivot arm available now that came stock on the 08 Apex. It looks like they've done a decent job of putting more strength into it, but it still looks very weak compared to say a REV-XP's suspension (mainly because the monoshock's design puts huge amounts of stress into the pivot arms compared to a more traditional skid).

I have reinforced the pivot arms on the monoshock in the past with some success, but it still eventually cracked. You pretty much have to box the entire arm everywhere in order to put enough strength into it to really survive aggressive riding. I added about an 1/8" of steel over pretty much the entire arm and it survived 6000 miles of aggressive riding before cracking. I also boxed it in between the two semi-vertical tubes on each side of the front arm.

Jim,

I have the same machine with the same revalve and respring. I only have a little over 1000 miles on it now this year. I don't ride like a maniac in the rough stuff too often because it is just plain hard on everything, but I am now very concerned how long I have before this failure.
How much are the replacement arms? Worth replacing as a proactive measure after so many miles?

Like Rex said, make SURE when your dealer orders the NEW part to order the '08 its beefed up compared to my RX1 '05, I know 'cause I'm riding a '08 APEX LTX, it seems to be holding up, I've got 6000kms so far this year and counting...
