Well, I pulled a good one..., in the process of showing a friend of mine how to get into the front end of my Phazer, I dropped my headlight and broke off one of the plastic mounting tabs where the adjustment screws go.

Yippie.

The headlight is perfect, this is the only part that broke. What kind of super type glue would anyone recommend to repair this? Is there a code or something on the headlight assembly that says what kind of plastic it is, so I can match up the proper glue for the plastic?

I may use a soldering iron to melt the plastic pieces together for extra strength as well as gluing.

Thanks in advance...almost wishing there was snow on the ground...nah, not yet ;)!

I've been searching, it looks like the grey plastic of the headlight is made from Polybutylene Terephtalate (PBT).

I found one company called Dymax that makes an adhesive (3072) that creates a bond stronger than the surrounding PBT material apparently. Not sure if it available to consumers...the website seemed pretty commercially oriented to me.

I guess Testors model glue would be too light duty for this job?

eek.

xc is right, jb weld should do the job, we see alot of it when people are trying to bond disimilar materials ie. someone once tried to hire me to weld an aluminium sleeve on to a 2" chrome shaft.

I superglued it then used a torch to heat a small screwdriver to melt the plastic back together.Has held great.

I'll have to look into JB weld some more. One of the websites I was snooping around said JB weld really only worked well on metal, not plastic, but they didn't say why.

Just goes to show: you can do some intensive technical work on a machine, but still be shut down by the simple stuff #$%&*

Cannondale, you broke one of yours too? I don't feel so bad now. I guess it can happen to the best of us!

Use a product called fusior its a two part epoxy. meant for plastic. I have glued hoods back together on the race sled and never had them break again. key is prep.
