We have now had 3 Side Winders mine included break the Primary springs. All of these units have had over 2000mi on them and have been rode hard most of the time. The spring and clutches both show rubbing between them. Not saying this will be the norm but maybe a pattern when ridding at higher speeds.
We are going to try the 90501-580a2-00 blu/brn/blu spring to replace with. this spring is more readily available has very similar rates but is a bit shorter.

My primary spring had paint missing all over it. Definitely binding. ( Just like secondary. ) Thunder spring is much better.

Don, I would also include TWO glide washers, as you know this should help.

Yep! Having my own made up as we speak.
Great work!

Looks like it might have to be Cochrane this weekend eh? Man this weather is depressing, watching 4ft of snowpack run down my gutters is enough to drive this sledhead to drink! grrrr.....

At least our lakes are becoming massive radar tracks though, Tom should be happy with that!

Mr. 125.2 ;)

fyi g/r/g is 105 vs your 116 choice equals more weight needed

how is the blu/brn/blu 50/116 98.5mm free length. 90501-580a2-00 affecting engagement speed?

Pic of glide washers please.

THUNDER PRODUCTS

Drive Clutch springs are in constant motion, being subjected to compression, rebound, end to end radial torquing, distortion, and vibration. “Glide Washers” are custom made with a baked-on lubricity coating. By placing a washer on each end of the spring it can no longer bind on the spyder or clutch cover. This frees up the spring to do its intended job. Each kit comes with 5 washers. Two have a lubricity and rust proof coating and three are zinc plated to prevent rust. Each washer increases clutch engagement speed approximately 40 to 50 rpm’s which makes it a nice tuning tool.

so by adding these washers , is there enough clearance that u won't cause coil bind now ?

these add length to the whole package so assuming the info about the spring being to long...no...with a shorter spring is the idea I gather...

Yes with a shorter spring you can use the washers. We have received some info that the stock primary spring gold/red/gold total force is around 113-115 and not the 105 stated in the manual. This is not confirmed but the total force on the blu/brn/blu seems to be pretty much the same. we will know more after some further tests.
