BROKEN PRIMARY SPRINGS. Keep eye on.

Mine primary spring is also gouged bad on the side, actual metal scraped off the side of spring, I have a blu/white/blu I put in and just did a loop on the yard it engages at 2600 rpm. Likely be a bit poochy on bottom, but should be close at high rpm. Will post how it works after this weekend.

I would try running 4 90201-483p9 yamaha shims. Should get you engagement to around 3200-3400 with not much change to the over all shift Rpm with your spring. These shims have a bit of taper to them and if you keep the taper sides inward at both ends this will keep the coil twist restrictions down a bit. ( smooth sides together)
We have used these shims on many Yamaha 2& 4 strokes in the past.
cheap fix to alter engagement and shift Rpm a bit.

Thanks for the advise as I was thinking that same thing, I had used them on my piped 700 viper back in 02. I'll check if my dealer has any tomorrow

I've also got a ulmer's primary spring (pink) I could try, would anyone know the rates on this spring, I believe it's higher force than my stock sidewinder spring?

@Beerman - Yes, that bushing has a gouge in it....but I've run bushings like this before. See if you can get it replaced, but in a pinch.....there is a lot more surface area and "I" wouldn't be scared to run it.

Lots of good info here everyone.

dgjr636 - That Blue/Brown/Blue spring has a higher rate on finish.....don't know if you will need to add weight on the tip or not. Watch engagement if you do not have enough spacers or washers.

The glide washers are cheap and protect your primary clutch.

Thanks NOS. Regardless I just ordered the 911 cover from Lonn to go with the glide washers. Looks like the snow petered out, so I can just wait and do this right with the 911 cover. I love everything about this sled but am really frustrated that Yamaha, known for awesome clutching, gave me (us) primary and secondary problems.

I've seen a few guys including myself damaging that bushing when removing the cover with the clutch bolt still in, it tends to rub the big lock washer. I prefer removing the clutch bolt.

Just a shout out to DGjr for keeping us all informed on your findings...and for being a top notch dealer.....Been buying sleds from Don for many many yrs,and he himself is the main reason. He knows this sport, rides where we ride and takes care of his customers even when the manufacturers may not.

Kudos, Don.....looking forward to the 18 release bud.

to me its highly reassuring when a dealer is in up to their elbows with our sleds...I would go out of my way to do buisness with a guy/place like that!

Well all I have to say is DGjr has cost me a lot of money this year. I'll have to tell my kids their inheritance is being spent at the big boys toy store!

All better now. Thanks to Lonn for meeting me to drop off the 911 and filling me in a lot of the clutch specifics, he knows his stuff!

Got 150km on blu/white/blu primary today and can say I am very pleased!
Xtx 137 Le
Clutch engagement at 2600 rpm
Mid range very responsive
Top rpm 9050 rpm pulls down to 8900
Secondary set at 6 and 1 = 70

Could use a bit more tip wait to bring rpm don just a little.

Overall the sled has really woken up and tomorrow I'll be hitting some deeper snow and see how it works in those conditions. Today was hard pack with 3 " fresh snow .
Top speed today 178 km
