Building a $6500 4-stroke mountain animal

ABC, it's really sad that it's come to that. Is that true now for all of Canada, or is that a Quebec thing? As overregulated at the US is, I don't think anywhere does that here. CA will probably be the first if things go that far in the hole.

they dont have the right to chase you down, and Bike pipe is street legal. Isnt much louder, and they have to prove that its louder.

Sorry, but i wont stop.

Its only a Quebec thing...some peoples had made close a trail portion named Le Petit Train Du Nord and now goverment set up new laws to keep noise down and stuff like that. Don`t worry Tundra I will find a way. And its gonna be a sleeper sled. stock look but hell inside.

AFTER You Do all this Does it Handle Like a Normal Sled?

A lot of that Wieght Reduction seems to be towards the rear But The Real Problem is UP Front
How Does the Sled Handle after these mods comparerd to a REV ?
I Want to Get Some Boondockability with this RX without spending
My season GAS Budget to Ride

We think they handle pretty good. Moving the steering forward puts you right where you belong. You get the nose up and you can put it anywhere. I've posted these a bunch of times, almost all of the footage is of my son, then 17, now 18, who weighs a whopping 125lbs and is 5'4". If he can throw it around, and I can throw it around (135lbs, wet) then anyone can throw it around.

In the "blewitt and kachess" video the guy with the yellow doo now owns No.5 Ton.

We went out for a maiden voyage on No.4 (the only black one) and had a great time. A few great "stucks" but lots of grins. Can't believe it's only November. Man! We got snow!

I'll do a post with photos showing what we do with the hood, but it's not too fancy. We use stock hood cause it is tough and light already. We ditch the light pod and plastic, cut down the stock windshield to a triangle and fasten it with three of the plastic screws/rubber nuts to cover the pod hole. We mount a fog light (using the forward plastic screw) wired to high beam. Survived two "roll out of a hole"'s today with no damage. Most that happens is you shear a plastic screw, so we carry extras.

Man that was a great video. Looks like the rider forward makes a huge difference in how you can toss that RX around. Wish I were as good a rider as your son...still lots of learning to do.

After seeing that, I'm thinking mine is going into my shop for surgery pretty soon after it comes home. Those videos are just feeding a habit...I think lots of us are going to need a fix!

BTW, what's the deal with the yellow submarine in that first clip? Is the doo really that much poorer in pow than the modded RX?

Great thread.

By no means will it be a mountain animal. Im just saying dont get your hopes up that much. People say with exhaust and suspension it is a completely different animal and will do a LOT more.

To be honest i am disappointed in the performance of this sled with mods. i got mine clutched to 05 spec which i heard was the best, got a light exhaust and a 2200 dollar suspension, and it now climbs close to a 600 ski doo. Nowhere close to a 900 RMK, Ski doo RT 1000, Ski Doo 800, Ski Doo XRS 800, M8, M10, or even a 600 RMK.

Its quite the weak 1000 engine.

Its going to do a lot better but a mountain animal is not exactly what id call it.

05 clutching is good, but not the best setup.

weight not agressive enough, and this setup dont let the clutch shift enough.

With 50 lbs less and a good clutching, i was in some hill, better than a summit 800 rev 151, but only some. Most of the time, the sled do the job like i was expecting. but saying that is comparable to a 600, you have a little problem with the setup.

the 1000 motor is way stronger than a 800, its only need a good setup and some field testing to make it work. Thing that yamaha didnt done with the first RX-1

Ces quoi tu as mis dans tes clutch Tundra? Je pensais aussi mettre le setup (ressort clutch et poulie menee, ranpe et helix) du 2005 mais si tu connais mieux.

Sorry for english people...I couln't resist to post in french. I just asked him what did he put in his clutch's compare to the 2005 setup.

Kachess great thread! You clearly show how an average at best mountain sled can be turned into a fun to ride, reliable rocket! My first few trips were awful, then the mods - seat, exhaust, M7 skid, ecp, clutching (05 with some tweaks), risers, tunnel, another skid (apex, should have just bought the holz in the first place) lightweight front end and I love this machine now. I go anywhere I want, use less fuel than all the other riders (other than the 4 strokers with me) and don't have to worry about being towed out (like some others I won't mention).

SoCoRX1........

If your engine seems "weak" you've got a problem. Ours climbs with cat 900's, rmk900's, M7's, and doo 800's. The yellow doo in the video was a 700, and three of the guys we have built sleds for had 02 summit 800's HO's, 151, with reeds. They say there is no comparison with the power of their old sled and what they have now. The guy with the 700 swaps off with his kid now and says his old sled is like getting on a mini Z. Out of our six sleds, mine is the only one with clutching, so I don't think that makes much of a difference. I would guess it's the attack 20 track or your suspension. Drag racing on the endless straights in McCall there was not a single mountain sled that could keep up. We buried 06 800 revs. Somethings wrong. People have said alot of things about RX1's but they never said the motor was "weak".

Kachess I have ridden Socal's sleds it runs real well in the groomed hardpark or climbing in other peoples tracks, but in powder it loses rpms. I think I remember it pulling down around 9,000 or so in pow pow. In the harder stuff it was around 10,500.

We/he also rides at 11,000+ so 05 clutching might not be the best..... Lighter weight and a different secondery spring I think would help IMO.

Also if he gets the SC put on I think he will be happy!
