Building a $6500 4-stroke mountain animal

Kachess thank you so much for all your posts you have helped everyone in some way I have a S/C on my sled but I did your rider forward as well as other things you posted and it very well made my sled into a mountain animal and there is not 1 2 stroke I ride with that can compare thanks

Thanks whitee. Supercharger is on our list for next year! I can see from photo you get your nose up!! I think the weight in our nose is the only thing that saves our sleds from going over backwarks much of the time. We rode with a fellow with a 600 rev, w/pipe, heads, & nos, and not only was he no competiton whatsoever (which again makes me wonder about SoCoRX1' s sled) , his sled was constantly going over backwards on him. We have popped over some sick steep hills in the spring, and ours have never gone over (fingers crossed).

whitee, good to hear that yours is working so well, can't wait to pick mine up and start tearing into it. BTW, I think your drop bracket wins the contest as to providing the most adjustability :) Looks good.

I agree with Kachess. I did the full lightweight treatment to my sled as well and last season not even using my NOS I marked every piped 800 Pol (6 different ones) I went against as well as several Doo's and a well set up KK. Any Rx with the mods in this thread should be right in the game if it's not you've got some kind of problem. When the RX is set up right it just keeps on going up and up even though it seems like it should be stopping. It's very hard to pull that motor down once it's in the groove.
"Weak" is not a word that commonly appears in the same sentence as RX1 motor.

Instructions for installing a skidoo seat on and RX1

We have installed Skidoo Rev and ZX chassis seats on RX-1’s. They fit pretty good, but not perfect at the gas tank. Boss makes specific seats for RX-1’s with front mount turbos and stock tunnels, but you are much more likely to find a used (or cheap) skidoo seat. Not only does the seat save you 10lbs or so, you loose all the attaching structure, and you get your trunk storage back.

We've found our Boss seats many ways. One guy had a ZX doo that already had a boss seat, one had a rev seat already, two ZX seats we found on Snowest (they are not flat tops), brand new, for $150 ea plus shipping (shipping was $50). The guy had 150 of them to sell and I'm seeing them show up on ebay. One guy bought a new ZX seat for $500 becausue he didn't want to wait all winter to have an RX-1 seat made. I ordered a Boss RX-1 seat in September and got it a couple of weeks ago.

All you do to make one fit is unzip the underside of the seat and remove a section of foam to allow it to sit down over the tunnel bump. We mark it, cut the side cuts with a small saw and slide a large knife from both ends to do the bottom cut. Zip it back up and install it like it was a doo. Save the foam you removed and you still have a seat to fit a doo. A strap around the seat to hold it forward and down helps while installing the snaps. Hi-rise seats may require some trimming of the tank shroud. There is s kick in the RX-1 tunnel that the doo doesn’t have, but the seats seem to bridge it ok. The shorter the seat the better.

Weight of Kachess RX1

I don't know if any one has asked this or it has been answered already...

Kachess,

Have you weighted any of your RX1s after removing all the un-necessary items and modding the sled? Thanks,

We weighed my son's last year with no gas and it was 537lbs. We weigh it by moving a heavy duty digital scale from ski to ski to a point on the track and adding them, always keeping the sled level. Probably not totally accurate. I would guess they probably weigh between 540 and 560. Not lightweights, but lighter than an Apex, and with the steering moved forward they handle pretty good. I weighed my stock RX-1 with same method and got 635lbs, no gas. Even after mods just filling the tank all the way is enough to make them top heavy, and they'll lumber a bit, so we only fill to one bar over half (6gals, 60 miles).

I went to ACE and picked up black spray paint used for plastic. Seems to work fine

exactly what i did for the arctic cat M7 skid's rear wheels. painted black and the paint seems to hold after a couple coats.
